The Derbyshire Writers' Guild is an ever-growing archive of writings based on the characters and stories created by the immortal Jane Austen. We make no claims to be able to reach the literary heights of Miss Austen, but, because we all wish that she had lived longer and written more, we feel the need to expand on the world, the characters and the stories that Miss Austen created. We sincerely hope that we will not offend her ghost or the spirit of her works in so doing.
How does this place work?New stories or new sections to ongoing stories are first posted on the Message Board. They are then manually transferred to the archives, usually within a few days. The archives is in two main sections.
If you would like to contribute a story, please read the Contributor Guidelines to see what is appropriate for this web site. We do have many young people visiting this site, and it is our intention to keep things acceptable for them.
Suggestions, comments and questions are always welcome:
The format for the Message Board has true threading--meaning you can get from the one message in a thread to the next, without returning to the main index. Other features include:
There are actually two Guild boards, the main one and a "Previously on the Guild" board. The first board operates like this: Stories and messages are posted there, and the stories are manually transferred over to the Archives (Epilogue Abbey and Fantasia Gallery). The second board is for older messages. Because the board gets a large number of posts every day, it is necessary to frequently delete the older messages. This can mean that the responses to stories might only been up for two days before they need to be deleted. However, instead of deleting them entirely after a few days, all posts will be moved to the "older stories" page, where they will be available to read for about an additional week. The older stories page, however, does not allow new posts--it is "read only". If you have any questions or comments, please post them in the Jane Austen's Tea Room. I'd like to thank Kathlyn for all the work she has done getting the boards up and running. She spent a great deal of time figuring out how they work and getting them put together.
Thanks also to Theresa S, Kathlyn, Jimmy, Peg and Spring for helping to archive the stories!!!!! For comments or problems, or if you have any suggestions (which are always welcome around here!) mail to: austen@austen.com
