Part 1
As the tall handsome, but very sad man stood at the podium, he took a deep breath and with a strong and steady tone began his story.
'I remember the first day I met her, the first moment I laid eyes on her. She was one of the loveliest women I have ever had the privileged to meet.
But of course that is not how I acted. Stupid me had to insult her and call her not pretty enough to tempt me. I was just tried and not having a good day and I didn't know that this angel overheard me. She wasn't offended though, no nothing offended her. She just laughed and walked away. I can still hear her musical laugh now.
I also remember the day she refused to date me. When she called me an arrogant, stuck-up snob. When she told me that I was the last man that she would ever date, I knew that I blew the greatest chance of a lifetime. She was right, however, I was that person that she described and she was disgusted by. And I still can't believe that I said those hurtful things to her, the one women that I would never want to hurt.
I also remember the surprise I felt when I got that wonderful second chance. A chance to prove myself to her. I still remember the embarrassment and humiliation of seeing her beautiful face, actually I think she was just a shocked at seeing me there as I was her. But, I spent that whole week proving myself and humbling myself before her. I wanted to show her that I changed and took her words to heart. And it was worth it when the day that she left, she grabbed my face and kissed me. Saying 'I love you William Darcy, don't forget that, this moment, and especially don't forget me.' I will never forget the joy and happiness or the pain and agony just a few short hours later. I felt everything crumble around me and no one could stop it.
Sometimes I think that this all to be a dream and I will awake and she will be here, but no. Even though there is a small chance, but even that is a small to none hope. And I have finally accepted that. She will not be returning, its been 3 weeks since that day and I haven't forgetting it. To me it was just yesterday.
As I conclude and looking out at all of your faces I know that she has in a way touched us all. She truly was an angel, a beautiful angel sent from up above. Good bye my darling, I will never forget and I will always love you. May you rest in peace forever Elizabeth, and I hope that one day I will be able to join you and be with you for all eternity.'
Part 2
As William Darcy was saying these things and Thomas Bennet, who thought he knew his daughter well was amazed at what he was hearing. His Lizzy, his wonderful bright girl had fallen in love, and this was the man that loved her in return. I think that he needs to know he doesn't need to have this agony any longer. Thomas then looked at A.D. (Assistant Director) Richard Fitzwilliam and mouthed 'let him know'. Then motioned to the back of the room. Rich turned and saw a figure listening to William's speech with a sad and painful expression. Rich made eye contact with the figure and nodded his head. Then as William was about to take his seat when his cousin, Rich, looked at him and motioned to the back of the funeral parlor. He didn't know what he meant so when he sat down next to him. Rich leaned over and whispered, 'looks like you need to go to the restroom.' Darcy just stared at his cousin, not knowing what he meant. He just got up and walked to the back of the room, which was when he noticed the figure standing at the back of the room.
'Really! He says such wonderful things about dear Lizzy and then gets up and leaves. How rude!' Mrs. Bennet whispered to her husband. Thomas just smiled and agreed, knowing why A.D. Fitzwilliam told him to go outside. Being in the FBI for over 20 years, Thomas knew how things were. That is why he wasn't upset as he should have been, if he lost his favorite daughter. He knew about his daughter's secret life because he was the one that introduced her to that world. Out of all 5 of his daughters, Elizabeth was the perfect one to follow in her father's footsteps.
As Darcy was walking towards the restrooms, he noticed a figure standing in the shadows. From the way the person was standing, he was able to tell that it was a woman. But why would someone be hiding in the shadows at Liz's funeral. Unless she knows who is responsible for Elizabeth's accident. Darcy thought walking towards the lady. When the lady noticed that he saw her, she walked towards the exit door. She was outside and waiting for him her back turned towards him, which is when William grabbed her arm.
'Now who are you and what are you doing here?' Darcy said turning her around. As he turned her around and finally saw her face, he only said the first thing that came to his mind, 'You're alive!'
Part 3
'Hello William.' Elizabeth Bennet, undercover FBI agent said.
'I'll repeat you are alive. But how?' William asked still not believing that she's alive and standing in front of him.
'I will tell you everything, but first we need to go somewhere quiet.' Elizabeth said looking around as if someone was going to show up unexpectedly. When the found a quiet and hidden place, Elizabeth first walked into William's open arms and hugged him tightly. 'I am sorry my love, but it was the only option.'
'Only option? I don't understand Elizabeth.' William said holding her tight as if she is going to disappear.
'Lets sit down and I will tell you everything.' When they sat down arms tightly grasping each other. 'First of all I am an undercover agent for the FBI. I work with your cousin, actually he is my boss. We have been tracking down a notorious crime boss and well I had my suspicions that it was. But it wasn't until you told me about his activities that lead me to believe that it was him.'
'Wickham?' Darcy said with contempt.
'Yes, George 'The Snake' Wickham. I was able to tell Fitzwilliam when I got back from Charlotte in May but it wasn't until my vacation that he informed me that I was right. That was the best week William, I never wished or wanted my work to follow me there. However it did, and that day I found out that he knew who I was and I had to head back to DC to find out what our next step was going to be. Just before I left, Fitzwilliam called and said he had the perfect way. It was that I had to disappear for a sometime to let Wickham's guard down. And well the rest you know.'
'So my cousin knew that you were alive and he didn't tell me?' Darcy said hurt and angry.
'Yes, only because he couldn't. The only people that knew that I was alive were my father and Fitzwilliam. The fewer people that knew the better. I am sorry that I couldn't tell you but it made Wickham believe it only the more when he saw your reaction. I guess Fitzwilliam or my father thought it is ok, or he wouldn't have let you know that I am alive.' Elizabeth said kissing him softly on the lips.
'Well I am glad for that, I felt like I have been going through living hell without you. At least when you hated me it was different because I knew that you were alive. It was worse knowing that you loved me and that you were dead, that I would never hold you again or see your wonderful smile first thing in the morning.' William said grabbing her and placing her on his lap.
'I know William, I thought I was going to go mad not letting you know about anything. You know you are taking this well, considering that I have lied to you about my work and all.' Elizabeth said leaning against him, just taking in his scent.
'I should be mad, I think that will happen once this all settles in, but for now all I wanna do is hold you.' William said holding her tight.
After sometime Elizabeth said, 'I gotta get going and you better return, we don't want people getting suspicious.'
'When will I see you again?' William said not letting her go.
'Tonight. Tell your cousin to bring you. He knows where I am and how to get you there without anyone knowing. I better go, I will see you tonight my darling.' Elizabeth said kissing him and disappearing.
'Yes later, I love you Elizabeth.' William said walking back into the funeral home.
'Feeling better cousin.' Rich asked.
'Yes much better, remind me to kill you later.' William said quietly.
'I couldn't tell you, if I could have at the time I would have. I am sorry Darcy.' Rich said whispering.
'I know. I know she explained everything to me. She also said for you to bring me tonight.'
'Yeah? Ok, you know that I shouldn't but this time I will make an acceptation. Meet me at the office at 6 tonight.'
'Ok.' William said walking outside with his cousin, paying his respects to the Bennet family. When he got to Thomas Bennet, he noticed the expression on his face. 'Thank you.' He said quietly shaking his hand.
'You are welcome, it's not everyday that Lizzy finds someone and someone that treasures her. I couldn't let you go through that any longer knowing that you cared for her.'
'Yes, I did care for her sir, and I always will.' William said loud enough not to draw attention to the people that were now looking at them.
'Thank you, she was a very special lady.' Thomas said with tears of happiness in his brown eyes.
William just nodded and proceeded to leave, hardly able to sit still in anticipation of seeing his love that night.
Part 4
That night around 6:00, William showed up at the FBI's main headquarters in Washington. 'Fitzwilliam you here?'
'Yeah Darcy right here.' Rich said from behind him.
'Don't do that or I will have another reason to kill you.'
'But if you do, you won't find out where Elizabeth is.' Rich said grinning, while William silently cursed.
'Can we please go now. I keep thinking that was a dream and she isn't alive.' William said quietly.
'Yeah I know. Ok here is what we are going to do. I am going to take your car back to your house and you are going to go to the cabin where we spent our childhood. The one that no one knows about but you and me.' Rich said taking off his jacket. 'Here put this one and let me have yours, if someone is following you they will think you are me and vice versa. You will be safe, but you have to leave first thing in the morning. Staying any longer could put you and Elizabeth in danger.'
'Ok I understand cuz. Thank you Fitzwilliam.'
'You are welcome, give this to her when you see her.' Rich said handing him an envelope.
'Deal. Goodnight.'
When William got there, at first it looked disserted but when William got out and walked to the front porch.
'Hold it right there, don't move.' A female voice said from behind him.
'Take it easy Liz, it's me William.' William said turning around to face her.
'Hi, sorry I was expecting Fitzwilliam to be with you.' Elizabeth said showing him inside.
'No he went home in my place and I came here.' William said pulling Elizabeth in a tight embrace. 'You're here and you're alive, I thought that I was dreaming what happen earlier.' He whispered into her hair.
'No you weren't. I am here William, I will always be there for you.' Elizabeth said kissing him gently on the lips. That one simple kiss fueled all the longing and love inside William and without further hesitation, he picked Liz up and carried her upstairs. A while later, wrapped in each other's arms the began to talk again.
'I missed this.'
'You and me both honey you and me both. I thought I would never be able to hold you again.'
'Well you are and I have no intention of leaving anytime soon. This reminds me of that week we spent together at your house. I can't believe how much has happened between us since that first week we met. Did you really mean everything you said at the funeral?' Elizabeth said looking into his brown eyes.
'Yes, I am sorry about all that. I just still can't believe my luck that you are here and you love me and nothing is going to come between us again.' William said kissing her again.
'Well I am sorry about what I said to you at your aunt's house. I had no right to say those things about you.' Elizabeth said quietly.
'Yes you did because they were right. I was that way and I would have been that way if you hadn't come into my life. I will always be grateful to whoever seemed fit that you should be in my life. And now I will always be grateful to your father for letting me know that you were alive.' William said kissing her gently.
'So it was my father. I thought that it was him just wasn't sure.'
'So what is our next move?' William asked holding her and inhaling in her scent.
'OUR? No Mr. Darcy you are not about to get involved in this.' Elizabeth said sitting up at looking at him.
'Well like it or not Ms. Bennet I am involved in this. I became involved in this ever since I fell in love with you, not to mention I know Wickham better than anyone.' William said with a smirk, knowing that he had a point and it was going to be pointless to argue.
'I am going to have to talk to Fitzwilliam about this. Believe me he is not going to like this.' Elizabeth said punching him in the shoulder.
'OUCH! What was that for?'
'To get that smug expression off your face and to let you know this isn't going to be easy.'
'I know Liz I know, but the sooner we get Wickham behind bars the sooner you can come back from the dead and we can be together.' William said holding her tight. Elizabeth silently agreed with him and they both fell into a deep sleep, knowing that the worst was yet to come.
Part 5
When Elizabeth woke the next morning there was a note in the place where William was. My dearest Elizabeth, be assured that last night wasn't a dream and that I love you and I want this to be over. I will talk to my cousin when I see him this morning and find out what I can do to help. This envelope is from my cousin, he told me to give it to you last night but I didn't want to. I wanted last night to be just you and me, no work. I will see you as soon as Fitzwilliam says I can, but be assured it won't be another 3 weeks. I don't know if I can hold out that long. I just don't know how I am going to act when around other people, I want to shout it out loud that you are not dead. I want the whole world to know that I am in love with the most beautiful woman in the world. But I can't, so for now it will be our little secret. I love you and I will keep in touch. All my love, Will.
Elizabeth just grinned and started to read the letter from Rich.
When William got back to the FBI headquarters he found his cousin waiting for him. 'Hi Darcy, shall we go up to my office?'
'Yes Fitzwilliam.'
'So how is she?' Rich asked once they were alone.
'She's doing great, she really doesn't like to be kept hidden though.' William said grinning at him.
'Yeah I know. One of the perks of being 'dead' no one can see you. So what do you want to do?' Rich said.
'What do you mean Fitzwilliam?'
'Elizabeth talked to me a few minutes ago and told me that you want to help. So what are we going to do to put Wickham in jail and bring Agent Bennet back from the grave.' Rich said sitting down at his desk.
'I don't know Fitzwilliam, there has to be a way. If there is someway that we could put the blame on him for Elizabeth's 'death' then that could be a start.'
'That might work. In the meantime Elizabeth can go to Wickham's office and try to get some evidence against him.'
'Why her?' William asked in an angry, concerned tone.
'Because no one will be following or watching her. Wickham has his hands into everything, which is why we did what we did last night. We believe that there is someone following you Darcy. So please don't go see Elizabeth without me knowing.' Rich said his voice low and pleading.
'Ok. But if Elizabeth goes I am going to go. I thought that I lost her once and I am not about to loose her for real. So does anyone else in the FBI know that Elizabeth is alive?' William said the wheels of his mind working.
'No, everyone thinks she is dead why?'
'Have you heard of Agent Fox Mulder?'
'Yes Darcy, he and his partner Agent Dana Scully head up the X-Files, they are also two of the most headstrong agents aside from Elizabeth. Why?' Rich asked knowing about those two and all they deal with.
'My father and his father were close and me and Mulder went to school together so he knows Wickham and he might be able to help us.' William said thinking about the fun they had in school.
'Ok, I will have to talk to A.D. Skinner to see if they can be involved, otherwise please don't talk to either one of them. Yes Ani?'
'Sorry sir, but Agents Mulder and Scully are here to see you.'
'Thank you show them in. Darcy tell me you didn't.' Rich said glaring at his cousin.
'No I didn't.' William said glaring back at him.

Author's Note: Mulder, Scully and anything pertaining to the 'X-Files' are not mine; they belong to Chris Carter. I am using my own views and opinions here as used by all of us so I hope that no one becomes offended if I don't stick to the show, even though it's one of the best! Btw didn't watch the final episode yet, VCRs really suck. So Mulder won't be disappearing in this story.
Rich and William both turned and watched as the dark hair man and his red headed partner walk into the office. 'You were at the funeral, I remember seeing you who are you?' William said looking at Scully.
'Darcy this is Special Agent Dana Scully, Agent Scully this is my cousin William Darcy.'
'Hello Agent Scully.'
'Please Scully and hello Mr. Darcy, that was a beautiful eulogy that you gave at the funeral. I was there because Agent Bennet and me were really close; she was a remarkable lady. Much like her father.' Scully said with tears in her eyes.
'And everyone calls him Darcy.' Mulder walked over to William and said, 'Darcy, how are you? Sorry to hear about Agent Bennet, I didn't know that you two were close.'
'Yes...um Fitzwilliam please, I can't do this anymore they need to know. They are after all with the FBI.' William said pleading to him.
'Ok, look I don't know why you two are here so would you mind telling me?'
'Yes sir. Mulder and I were asked by Skinner to help with the case. It also seems that Mulder is familiar with Wickham, so we might be able to help. Also Mr. Bennet asked especially for us to be brought in and I would like to know why?' Scully said looking at Rich.
'Ok. If Mr. Bennet wanted you to know then I guess I can trust you both as well. However, one: this is not to leave this room; and two: I will let you all know that I don't like this. When more people know the more dangerous it gets.' Rich took a deep breath and started, 'Agent Bennet isn't dead,' at this Scully gasped, Rich looked at her and made a face to say 'I'm sorry I couldn't tell you. Then continued, 'her disappearance is a cover so that we can trap Wickham. He found out that she is involved in the FBI so we had to make her disappear for a bit. Darcy here just found out yesterday that she's alive and is going to help. It was his suggestion that I find out about asking you to help...' Rich said looking at him, but was cut off from saying the rest.
'Mulder I am asking you as a friend to help. Please help us get Wickham so he won't harm anyone else.' William said finishing the sentence looking at his old friend.
'You can count on me Darcy, I will do everything I can to help bring Wickham down.' Mulder said walking over to William and placing his hand on William's shoulder.
'Thanks Fox I owe you one.' William said only using his first name.
'Ok, if we are going to do this do me a favor? Call me Mulder, none of that Fox business deal?' Mulder said glaring at him.
'I know Mulder.' William said smiling at him
'Scully you will find out that me and Darcy go way back and we constantly get on each other's nerves.'
'Not all the time Mulder and but know that you mentioned it and to get you back shall I ask your partner why you constantly talk about her.' William said grinning and ignoring the glare that Mulder was sending him.
'Talk about me huh Mulder? Well if you know him that well than I trust that you won't believe everything that Mulder tells you, most of it he likes to exaggerate on.' Scully said smiling at him.
'Ok you guys we have a job to do enough chitchat let's get down to business. The quicker we get this done the quicker Elizabeth can come back from the grave.'
'Yes sir.' All three of them said at once.
Part 7
The next night, after leading William's tail on a wild goose chase, Mulder, Scully, Rich and William met at the cabin.
'It's good to see you again Elizabeth. I thought that I lost you as well.' Scully said hugging her.
'No you didn't loose me yet Dana and it's good to see you as well.'
'Hey! She called you Dana, no one calls you that.' Mulder said nodding towards Elizabeth. Trying to figure out his partner's peculiar behavior.
'Not everyone calls me Scully Mulder. You are about the only one that calls me Scully. You and those creepy buddies of yours.' Scully said looking at him.
'Creepy buddies? Oh she means Byers, Langly and Frohike right Mulder?'
'Yes Darcy also known as the 'Lone Gunmen',' Mulder said glaring at Scully. 'She won't admit that she like them so she calls them that. However, I could say the same about yours and Elizabeth's friends.'
'Who?' Scully asked.
'You know Mosylu, Elli and Kiki, the ones that are totally obsessed with Jane Austen and that Internet site. Don't talk about my friends unless you want me to talk about those wacky girls that insist on driving their reader's nuts. I mean those four are nuts did you ever meet them Darcy?' Mulder says looking at Darcy, who was shaking his head. 'Well that's good they are the worst.' A.N. No 'Pride and Prejudice' just the other Jane Austen stories. Besides they are in the story, we don't need them in the book as well.
'Listen Mulder don't start with them again or...'
'OK! THAT"S ENOUGH!' Elizabeth said yelling. 'Can we please concentrate on bringing Wickham down. Because the longer this continues everyone that I love will continue to think that I am dead. And Mulder don't you dare start harassing Dana or me about them unless you really want to get into an argument about the 'Lone Gunman'. Because I could tell you a few things about them creepy guys.' Elizabeth said glaring and him while Scully just smirked at him.
'Thank you Elizabeth. You four can argue about you 'weird' friends later. Now we agreed that we should try and frame Wickham for Elizabeth's death. That way Elizabeth can search Wickham's office while we are conducting the interrogation without being seen.'
'Don't forget Fitzwilliam that I am going to.' William said sitting next to Elizabeth.
'Nope bad idea Darcy. With that guy following you all he has to do is see Elizabeth and the whole 'dead' scenario is over.'
'Look Mulder I am not about to loose her for real.' William said glaring at his friend.
'Then I'll go with her, that ok with you Elizabeth?'
'Yeah fine with me Mulder. We did it before and we can do it again. Just don't let what happen last time happen this time. I really don't need any of your X-Files finding their way into this mess.' Elizabeth said.
'Don't worry they won't, at least I hope that they won't.' Mulder said promising.
'Ok Mulder and Elizabeth will investigate Wickham's office is that ok Darcy?' Rich asked.
'Yes for now.' Darcy said not totally convinced.
'In the meantime you and Agent Scully can figure out who's following you and try to pin that on Wickham if the framing doesn't work.'
'Ok. Hey look I better go and call Georgie and tell her that I'm still working.'
'Good idea, that way our 'friend' will still think that you are at the office.' Rich said. William stood up and walked into the other room only to return with a grave face.
'Will honey what's wrong? Liz said walking over to him.
'Oh it's Georgie. She is so worried about me and I try to say its fine and everything is going to be ok and well...' William said trailing off.
'Don't worry soon it will all be over with.' Elizabeth said hugging him.
'Yeah Darcy when this is over you can place the blame on me.' Rich said. 'Well I think that's all for tonight. I am going to stop by your house to see her.'
'Ok Fitzwilliam thanks. Shall we go?' Darcy asked grabbing his coat.
'You're not going to stay?' Elizabeth asked quietly.
'No, I better go back and check on Georgie. I would love to stay with you but...'
'She needs you. I understand completely. I love you.' Elizabeth said kissing him and walking outside to where Scully and Mulder were arguing.
'They are not creepy!'
'Yes they are, you even said it yourself.'
'Hey you two that's enough blood spill for the night.' Elizabeth said laughing.
'So we leaving?' Scully asked.
'Yeah we all are.' William said hesitantly.
'How about I stay here and you can fill me in on everything that you know Elizabeth.' Mulder asked sensing William's fear of leaving her alone.
'Sure. I could you the company it does get lonely being dead.' Elizabeth said laughing.
'I will see you later. I love you Liz.' William said hugging her tight.
'I love you too.'
'Girl you got to fill me in when we get a chance alone.'
'Yeah you too cuz.' Elizabeth said smirking at her.
Part 8
'Cuz?'
'Yes Mulder you didn't know that Dana and I are cousins? Why do you think that I do call her Dana?' Elizabeth said smiling at him.
'That would explain why you both gang up on me.' Mulder said grinning and looking at his parted the pieces were finally fitting together. 'And why you got upset when you found out, and why Skinner and Bennet wanted us in on this.'
'Yes. We are cousins, the only ones that know are Skinner and Fitzwilliam because they are our A.D. other than that no one else knows that we are cousins. Mostly because of our job and the fact that Elizabeth is an undercover agent, if people knew that we were cousins then they could figure out what Elizabeth's does and could put all of our lives in danger and our families.'
'Then who is related to who to make you guys cousins. I thought that I knew everything about you Scully.' Mulder said hurt.
'Dana's father and mine are half-brothers, they share the same mother. They both were in the FBI together. That is why I am and one of the reasons that Dana joined.' Elizabeth said.
'I thought is was just to annoy me?' Mulder said smirking.
'Well that too and too keep an eye on my younger cousin.' Scully said laughing at him and walking over to Elizabeth.
'I thought that I failed in protecting you, I couldn't figure out why Uncle Tom wasn't so upset and why he told me that it's ok.'
'I am sorry I couldn't let you know Dana but the less people that knew...'
'The more convincing it would be.' Scully said giving Elizabeth a hug. 'I love you Elizabeth Dana Bennet.'
'And I love you Dana Elizabeth Scully.' A.N. I don't know if they ever mentioned her middle name if so I am changing it.
'Well good night all and take care of her.' Scully said looking at her partner.
'Don't worry Scully I will. Good night.' Mulder said just looking at her.
'Night love, night cousin, night sir.' Elizabeth said laughing at Rich's face.
'Night Liz.' William said getting into the car with Scully and all of them leaving.
After they left Mulder and Elizabeth starting discussing how Elizabeth met Wickham and everything that she knows.
'So Darcy told you about what he did?'
'Yes. Me and Will had a big fight back in April and well he wrote me and told me a few things. It was from that letter that I was able to figure out what I did about Wickham.' Elizabeth said with a hint of pink spreading on her cheeks.
'You love him a lot don't you?'
'Yes I do why?' Elizabeth asked.
'Just wondering, I see the way he looks and you and its just weird seeing Darcy in love.' Mulder said leaning back in the chair, munching on sunflower seeds.
'Then let me ask you this, why don't you tell my cousin that you love her?'
BAM! The chair that Mulder was sitting on fell to the floor with him in it. 'Umm what makes you think that I even love her?'
'I see the way you look at her and the way you try to aggravate her. She loves you as well I can tell by the way she talks about you, I mean its Mulder this and Mulder that. I never saw two people that care about each other they way that you two do and you never talk about it.' Elizabeth said looking at him.
'Yeah well you know procedure. It wouldn't be right that her and me get involved.'
'That is the worst excuse I ever heard.' Elizabeth said laughing.
'I know but right now it's the only one that is logical.'
'Fox what is logical is that you tell her. You almost lost her once and other times I don't even want to bring up so please don't make the assumption that it won't happen again. Believe me when I say that life is too short and in this business it's even shorter.' Elizabeth said standing up walking over to the window.
Part 9
Meanwhile a similar conversation was going on in the car with Scully and William.
'So you and Liz must tell each other everything?' William said looking at his long time best friends partner.
'Yes. I know all about what happen between you two last April, that is one of the reasons I told Lizzy to tell Fitzwilliam about Wickham. As you can tell I wasn't able to talk to her before her 'death' so I didn't know that she changed her mind about you. It wasn't until I heard your eulogy at the funeral that I realized something happened and my little cousin fell in love with the man she hated.' Scully said looking at the road.
'She hated? That is an understatement Scully. She despised me and rightfully so, I mean I treated her so badly I still can't believe that she loves me and we are together.' Darcy said laughing a little.
'Well from the look on her face I can tell that she really loves you and I know that you will do your best to make her happy.'
'Thank you Scully I will spend the rest of my life trying to make her happy.' William said then with a grin asked. 'Can I ask you a question?'
'Yeah sure.'
'Exactly how would you define your relationship with Mulder?'
'We are partners if that is what you mean, other than that we are the best of friends.' Scully said hesitantly.
'Just best friends? From my standpoint it looks like more than that. I have known Mulder for a long time, just about the same amount that I have known Bingley, and I know that the man is crazy about you. He really does care about you more than just a friend does.'
'Well he did tell me that he loved me once but he was on medication and a little delirious so I didn't believe him but afterwards I was beginning to wonder if it was true. I know that I do love him and I am most comfortable in his presence and I trust him with my life. It's just that...' Scully said trailing off.
'You don't want to tell him and get the same reaction I did when I told your cousin that I loved her.'
'Yeah sort off. I know he won't say the things that Lizzy said to you, but I wonder what he will say. I mean will he take it as a best friend telling her best friend that she loves him like a friend or what?' Scully said glancing at William.
'I don't know what to tell you Scully, sometimes I wish I kept in touch with Mulder so I would be able to know how what he is feeling but I didn't. The only thing you can do is to tell him. I was lucky, I thought that I lost Elizabeth for good just when she loved me as well. Don't make the same mistake Scully, because one day you might wake up and Mulder won't be there and you will live the rest of your life in regret.' William said softly and then turning his attention to outside the car.
'Do you see him?' William asked as they were leaving his building.
'Yes he is right behind us, just keep driving and head back to your house.' Scully said from the back seat of William's car.
'Let's just hope that he doesn't see you and disappear.' William said driving to his house.
'Don't worry this isn't the first time I did this. Mulder and me are experts at not letting people know where we are.' Scully said smiling and quietly laughing.
'Any idea who it is?'
'Don't know I wasn't able to see his face clearly. How are you going to explain this to your sister?'
'Fitzwilliam is going to tell her some story I think to cover it for now. I really hate lying to her about Elizabeth.' William said approaching the large house.
'I know Darcy, but like Fitzwilliam said the fewer the people that know the safer she will be.'
'Ok here we are I am going to park in the garage so he can't see you. Just wait until I tell you that it is ok.' William said pulling his car into the garage and closing the door behind him. 'Ok you can come out Scully.'
'Ok, wow this is some house.' Scully said looking around as the got inside.
'Thank you. Georgie! Are you home dearest?' William said calling out to his sister.
'Yes William, Rich and me are right here. Hello Agent Scully.' A young blonde girl came walking out of the living room with Rich.
'Scully this is my sister Georgiana Darcy. Georgie this is Agent Dana Scully, she works with Mulder.'
'How do you do Miss Darcy?'
'Fine thanks, I hear that you work with Mulder. That must be rough, I have known him all of my life and he's an interesting person.' Georgie said grinning.
'Yes it certainly is.'
'Well if you will excuse me I am going to go to bed. Are you going to be ok William?' Georgie said walking over to him.
'Yes dearest I am fine and everything is going to be fine. Trust me.' William said hugging his little sister and gently kissing her on the forehead.
'Ok I love you William.'
'Love you too, Georgie.'
Part 10
'That was Scully they got to the house ok.' Mulder said walking onto the back porch, where Elizabeth was swinging on a swing.
'Ok. There is something I have been meaning to ask you. Do you think that the smoking man is tied in some how with Wickham? When Fitzwilliam and me were trying to get clearance on some things the bureau kept giving us the runaround.' Elizabeth said looking at him.
'Smoking man? Scully told you about him?' Elizabeth nodded. 'Oh yeah, the cousin thing. I don't know possibly and if so it is going to be harder to bring him down. Let me call Byers and see if any of them can find something on Wickham that the FBI won't be able to stop us with.'
'Ok, but if he is involved with crime then the local authorities should be able to arrest him right?'
'Yes and no. If they do arrest him then the FBI could tell them to release Wickham. However I think that there is more to Wickham than just organized crime. Hang on a sec.' Mulder said calling Byers.
'Hello?'
'Hey Langly what's going on?'
'Mulder,' Langly said. 'What can I do for the FBI's most unwanted?'
'Very funny. Hey could you all do me a favor and try to see what you can find on a George 'The Snake' Wickham and email it to me.'
'Sure Mulder, so how is Agent Bennet doing? Has she driven herself crazy yet?'
'What? How did you...never mind you guys no more than we do. She is doing fine, I am with her now and we need to find everything we can on Wickham or else she is going to remain dead. Ok?' Mulder said looking at a surprised Elizabeth.
'Ok we will get right on it, bye Mulder.'
'Bye Langly.' Mulder said hanging up and looking at Elizabeth and shrugging. 'Can't hide nothing from them guys.'
'Yeah I figured that out when I meet them when we were working on that case together.' Elizabeth said laughing at his expression. 'What?'
'Nothing. I am just thinking how different you are from your cousin. You seemed to like working on that case with me and your cousin always have to find something wrong with it and criticize me every step of the way.'
'Yeah well I am a little more open to the supernatural unlike Dana. But one thing that I don't understand Mulder is why would the bureau want to protect Wickham? If they know what he does and who he is, why don't they stop him?'
'For the same reasons the Smoking Man can't be touched Elizabeth. There is someone high up in the government that is protecting him. They need Wickham for some odd reason and that is what we got to find out.' Mulder said staring up at the stars.
'But not everyone knows this or is doing this right?'
'Yeah.'
'So if we can bypass them and prove that Wickham is no good then the FBI could arrest him right?' Elizabeth said trying to put hope into a more and more hopeless situation.
Mulder nodded and looked at her. 'Yes that might work. But we got to find something on him, either us or the Lone Gunman.'
'What about drugs? That way the FDA Don't know if that is what its initials are? could get him and arrest him without the FBI's interference right?
'Hmmm that might work.' Mulder said thinking. 'We might have to tell no one that we are going to do this, only Scully, Darcy and our respected Ads. No one else can know.'
'What about my father? Maybe he could investigate into the FBI and find out something that they are not supposed to be doing.' Elizabeth said getting up and walking down to the lake.
'Ok I will contact him tomorrow. This place hasn't changed one bit.'
'How long has it been since you were here?' Elizabeth said looking at him.
'About 5 years, just before Mr. Darcy died. That was the last time I really spent time with Darcy and Fitzwilliam.' Mulder said skipping a stone across the lake.
'Oh. How did Mr. Darcy die? William won't talk about it.'
'Honestly I don't know. Someone knows just like my father, I think it is because they both were involved with whatever is going on.'
'Isn't it weird my father, yours, Dana's and William's were all in the FBI and my father is the only one that isn't dead. And all of us minus William are in the FBI as well.'
'Yeah it is. But your father was in the safer areas of the
FBI, so he won't mysteriously die.' Mulder said looking at her.
'Yeah but I am and I am scared for my family as well. Look what happen to my cousin, Melissa.' Elizabeth said mentioning Scully's dead sister.
'Yes I know. That was an accident. They thought that she was Scully.'
'I know and that is one reason I am glad that Jane and Katie don't look like me.' Elizabeth said getting sad and quiet.
'Don't worry Elizabeth. We will stop him and you can go back to your family.'
'I miss them Mulder. I even miss my mother's ramblings.' Elizabeth said laughing. 'Well its getting late, shall we turn in?'
'Sure I can see why Darcy loves you.' Mulder said grinning.
'And I can see why Dana loves you.' Elizabeth said smirking at him and walking inside. Tomorrow was going to be a tough day.
Part 11
'Mulder are you ready?' Elizabeth said.
'Yeah sure.' Mulder said coming down the stairs not totally convinced.
'Looks like you are ready. Shall we go for a jog before we go creeping around Wickham's office?'
'Let's go. This has to be another cousin thing.'
'What?' Elizabeth asked confused.
'You and Scully both love to jog. She did every morning no matter where we were.'
'Yeah well being in the FBI you have to stay in shape. Am I right or what?'
Mulder just shrugged and said 'I guess so.'
About an hour later Mulder and Elizabeth were approaching the cabin when Mulder yelled. 'Elizabeth! Get back someone is there.'
'Where? Oh it's ok Mulder, that is my father's car. I wonder what he is doing here?' Elizabeth said walking up to the cabin calling ' Dad?'
'Lizzy, where were you?'
'Mulder and me went for a jog. It was ok dad no one is around to notice us.'
'Ok. Hello Agent Mulder how is Agent Scully doing?' Thomas said shaking the exhausted Mulder's hand.
'She is better, now that she knows that her cousin is alive.' Mulder said smiling at Elizabeth.
'So you told him.'
'Yes dad. Dana and I told him and William last night. Well if you will excuse me both I am going upstairs and taking a shower.' Elizabeth said walking into the cabin.
'Shall we go in?'
'Sure. So what did you want to see me about Agent Mulder?'
'I take it Elizabeth called you this morning.'
'No Dana did, Elizabeth called Dana, who then called me.'
'Oh yeah I guess that is a better way.' Mulder said sitting down, then getting back up and looking at Agent Bennet. 'I wanted to talk to you about Wickham and finding a way to arrest him without the bureau's interference.'
'In other word someone in the bureau is behind him and you want to find a way to take him down so no one can release him.'
'Yes something like that.' Mulder said walking over to the table and picking up his bag of sunflower seeds.
'Ok I will see what I can find out. I still got all my clearance codes so no one will know what I am doing.' Tom said standing up and walking over to where Mulder is standing.
'Thank you Agent Bennet, may I ask you another question?'
'Yes Agent Mulder?'
'Why did you ask Scully and myself to help?'
'Well the main reason was to let Dana know that her cousin was alive.' Tom said looking at him.
'And the other?' Mulder asked sensing that wasn't the whole truth.
'Because Wickham is involved with the Smoking Man and that has been your life's work; bringing him down and finding out what conspiracy he is so hard trying to protect.'
'Oh. And how do you know all of that.' Mulder said a little shocked.
'Mulder I don't get to where I am by just obeying orders. I saw some of your reports and so I have been working on my own angle. That is how I found out that someone in the bureau is protecting Wickham. So I knew I had to ask you or else my baby girl will remain dead.'
'Well after this is over you and me need to compare notes.'
'Compare notes on what?' Elizabeth said walking in.
'Just something I am working on honey.' Tom said walking over to where his daughter was and embracing her.
'What are you working on Daddy?' Elizabeth said looking at her father.
'Just another angel, don't worry ok sweetheart?' Tom said looking at Elizabeth.
'I always worry dad, you know that by now.'
'Yeah, well I better be going. Take care honey.' Tom said once again embracing his daughter. 'Please take care of my baby Mulder.'
'I will Agent Bennet, both of them. I always do.' Mulder said walking over to where they were standing.
'I know and I don't know what Dana would do without you in her life, you are her lifeline.'
'Yes and she is mine.' Mulder said shaking his hand. 'If you will excuse me I think that I am going to take a shower and clean up.'
'Goodbye Agent Mulder, bye honey please take care.'
'I will father don't worry so.' Elizabeth said laughing.
'OK! Ok bye.' Tom said leaving.
'So are you going to tell me what you and Dad were talking about?' Elizabeth asked when Mulder reemerged.
'Your father has some ideas how to bring down Wickham.'
'Uh-huh.' Elizabeth said not totally convinced that was all of it. 'Speaking of Wickham, Dana called he is being brought into headquarters in about an hour.'
'Ok, I guess its show time.' Mulder said hesitantly.
'Yeah I guess so.'
Part 12
'Ok I just called Liz, she said that her and Mulder will be leaving soon to see what they can find.'
'Yeah, well I guess that I will go back to my office and just wait.' Darcy said worriedly.
'Relax Darcy. Mulder won't let anything happen to her, I can promise you that.' Scully said quietly.
'I know Scully, I just hope that the bureau can hold him long enough so that they can get everything they need and get out of there.'
'Don't worry I will be there. He won't be going anywhere for the next two hours at least.' Scully said smiling at him.
'Ok Scully.' Darcy said giving her a shaky smile. 'Just please let me know the minute you hear from them.'
'I will Darcy. You better get out of here before Wickham comes.' Scully said.
'Yeah I better, because if I do see him, it will be me they will be holding. Bye Scully.' Darcy said shaking her hand. And with that he walked out and about twenty minutes later there was a knock on her door.
'Agent Scully he is here, are you ready?' Rich said walking into the room.
'Yes I am. Let's go and get this over with.' Scully said walking with Rich towards the interrogation room.
'You have no right to hold me here!' Wickham shouted at Rich as he walked into the room.
'Sit down Wickham!' Rich said sitting down in the chair across from him. 'Scully this is George Wickham. Wickham this is Special Agent Dana Scully.'
'So you are Mulder's partner. Man he always knew how to pick them.' Wickham said winking at her. 'So where is Mulder Fitzwilliam? I am surprised he's not here to help or he is the reason why I am here.'
'Actually he's not the reason Mr. Wickham, the reason is that we have reason to suspect that you were involved with the death of Miss Elizabeth Bennet.' Scully said keeping her voice as calm as possible.
'Miss Bennet, I don't know a Miss Elizabeth Bennet. Oh wait! You mean Darcy's girlfriend or do you mean Undercover Agent Elizabeth Bennet of the FBI?' Wickham said smirking at Rich.
'I don't know what you are talking about Wickham. Miss Bennet wasn't with the FBI, but yes she was Darcy's girl and considering that you will do anything to hurt Darcy that makes you our number one suspect.'
'Yes I don't like Darcy that is apparent, but I would never do anything to a young lady. That isn't my style and you know it Fitzwilliam. Well now that we got that covered talk to you later, pleasure meeting with you Agent Scully, give my regards to Mulder when you see him.' Wickham said attempting to stand up.
'Not so fast Wickham.' Scully said. Attempting to block him from leaving. 'I am not finish yet with you. I have one question for you. How did you know that Ms. Bennet and Mr. Darcy were seeing each other? From what I gather from Mr. Bennet his family didn't even know that they were dating. In fact everyone thought that they hated each other. When I talked with Mrs. Bennet she said that you and Ms. Bennet knew each other and she seemed genuinely honest that you too were friends.'
'All right I did know her, we were friends, but like I said I wouldn't harm a woman that isn't my style. And yes you are correct Elizabeth and Darcy disliked each other. I wouldn't be surprised if Darcy had something to do with her accident. She hated him and told me so.' Wickham said sneering at Rich.
'Ok so you have reason to believe that Darcy had something to do with it. What would be his ammo in killing Ms. Bennet? Tell me that Wickham?' Scully said trying to keep him talking and to give two people find exactly what they have been sent to find.
'Mulder what did you find you haven't moved from that spot for the past ten minutes? We have about 30 more minutes before we need to leave.' Elizabeth said walking up behind him, looking at what he has been looking at.
'This is it. This is what we are looking for Elizabeth, this is why Wickham is being protected by the FBI.' Mulder exclaimed joyously.
'Well what is it?'
'Not now we need to go. I will tell you later when Scully and them show up later tonight so we all can talk about it and find out where to go from there. Come on let's go.' Mulder said grabbing her arm and quietly exiting the office.
Part 13
Later on that night Scully, Mulder, William, Elizabeth and Rich all met do discuss what happen that day.
'Thank god that you are ok. I thought I was going to go nuts waiting for Scully to call and say that you got back here safely.' William said wrapping his arms around Elizabeth.
'I am fine honey, nothing happen Mulder and me were perfectly safe. It is what we were trained to do, right Mulder?' Elizabeth said looking at Mulder, who was standing next to Scully.
'Right Elizabeth.' Mulder said grinning at her.
'So what happen with Wickham?' Elizabeth asked Scully.
'Well first of all he denied that he knew who you were, then we said that he did and that you and Darcy hated each other and if anyone had a motive to kill you it would be Darcy.' Rich said sourly.
'WHAT?!?' Darcy said yelling.
'Calm down honey, everyone knows that we didn't get along but as if! You would never try to kill me, would you?' Elizabeth said smiling at him.
'No never! Do you even have to ask me that? Thank god that I wasn't there or else I would have be arrested for killing him. To even suggest that I would hurt her is preposterous.' William said wrapping his arms around her and just holding her.
'Anyway that is what Scully and I told him, everyone heard your eulogy at the 'funeral' and knows that you loved her and would never hurt her.' Rich said trying to sooth his cousin.
'Ok now what did you find Mulder?'
'Yes Mulder what is it that you found, I have been trying to find out since he found it.' Elizabeth said looking at him.
'I found out why the Smoking Man has Wickham under his wing.' Mulder said smugly.
'WELL WHY?!?' Everyone said yelling at him.
'Ok ok calm down and I will tell you.' Mulder said grinning. 'It seems that Wickham was a part of the little operation in Texas that we found last year. You know where the bees where Scully.'
'Yeah how could I forget? To this day I still can't stand the sight or sound of bees.' Scully said cringing.
'Yes.' Mulder replied quietly. 'He was the one supply the critical supplies needed to conduct the experiment. Being in the line of work that he is he is able to get hold of the chemicals and drugs that they needed. So that is why the government needs him and won't allow us to put him behind bars.'
'Then how are we to stop him?' William asked sitting down with Elizabeth beside him.
'I don't know bringing down Wickham is going to be as difficult as bringing down Smoking Man.' Mulder said sitting next to Scully.
'Well we are not going to give up not now not never.' Scully said placing her hand on his.
'That is right Mulder. I will not rest until they are all put away. I still want to get them for what they did to my family.' Elizabeth said meaning her cousins and uncle.
'And I am not going to quite either, not until I find out to what extent my father knew about this and why he was killed.' William said quietly not taking his eyes off of the floor. Elizabeth placed her arm around him and squeezed him, kissing him lightly on the cheek. William turned to her and smiled. 'Besides until this is resolved my lovely lady here has to remain dead. And I am starting to get tired of lying to everyone and tired of being separated from her.'
'And that is going to be the number one reason and the first reason.' Rich said. He then finished quietly, 'I know that all of us has personal reasons for bringing them down.'
'And what is yours sir?' Scully asked.
'My wife was also an undercover agent and about a year ago she disappeared. I want to know if she is still alive and who has her.'
'I did not know that you were married Rich.' Elizabeth said looking at him.
'No you didn't. Know one except for Darcy and Georgie knew, company policy. If they knew that Erin H... was my wife then they could harm her to get to me. She like Mulder, Scully and you, Elizabeth got too close to the truth.'
'Wait a minute, you mean Erin H... is your wife?' Mulder asked.
'Yes.'
'Wow! She does great work, she is one of the best.' Mulder said looking at him. 'I am sorry sir, I promise to find out what happen to her as well.'
'Thank you Mulder, that means plenty to me.' Rich said smiling at him.
'Well all it's getting late and Mulder and me should be getting back into the city.' Scully said standing up and walking over to her cousin. 'Take care and I will call you tomorrow to find out what we are going to do.'
'I will love you Dana.'
'Love you to Elizabeth.' Scully said hugging her.
'And Mulder remember what I said.' Elizabeth said smiling at him.
'I will bye.'
'You are staying?' Elizabeth asked Darcy when they all walked outside.
'Yes. I told Georgie that I was staying at Rich's house to help him.'
'Poor Rich. I had no idea.' Elizabeth said walking upstairs with him.
'Yeah he covers it pretty well.' William said lying down. 'Well I think its time to get some sleep today has been an eventful day.'
'Yes it has. I love you William.'
'And I love you Elizabeth.' William said kissing her and turning out the light.
Part 14
Meanwhile a late night meeting was taking place at an unknown location. 'It seems that Mulder, Scully, Fitzwilliam, Darcy and the Bennets are getting too close to the truth. They found out about how Wickham is involved. Not to mention the lovely Agent Elizabeth Bennet isn't dead, from what I listened to between Scully and Mulder it would seem that whole little death thing was a rouse to trap Wickham.' A tall once handsome man said smoking on his cigarette.
'Yes and it worked.' Alex Krycek answered. 'And Wickham was brought in today in question of Agent Bennet's supposed death. He is started to be more of a problem than a help to the project. He knew her and boasted that and he knew Darcy, Darcy's father, Fitzwilliam and Mulder. He could be a liability.'
'Yes Alex he is going to be one and we don't like liabilities do we?'
'No sir.' Alex said smiling and walking out of the office.
'Hello Wickham'
'Krycek what are you doing here?'
'Taking care of a liability.' Alex said pointing a gun at him.
'What are you doing?' Wickham said panicking. 'You need me!'
'No we don't. They know Wickham. Scully, Mulder and Darcy found out how you are tied to us and we don't like that. And it would seem that Agent Bennet is still alive, her little death was a trap for you and it worked.'
'Elizabeth's not dead? I don't understand Darcy was truly upset and so was her family.'
'Well she is alive, Smoking Man listened in on Mulder and Scully talking and it would seem her little death was a hoax to trap you.' Alex said sneering at him.
'Darn that little b&@!*, I knew she was trouble the moment I met her.' Wickham cursed. 'Krycek look give me another chance, let me take care of her and Darcy.'
'Sorry Wickham we can't do that, now that they know what you are to us they are going to try everything and anything to get you. There is one thing about Scully and Mulder they don't rest until they find the truth and now that they got Darcy and Bennet with them who knows what is going to happen. So sorry Wickham we can't take that chance. Besides,' Alex smiled. 'I never did like you.'
With fear in Wickham's eyes he watch as Krycek fired his gun and everything went dark.
The next morning a call was placed at the cabin.
'Hello?'
'Elizabeth its Dana, I got some good news and well it's mysterious actually.'
'What Dana? Will honey wake up Dana's on the phone.' Elizabeth said shaking Will's shoulder. 'Ok Dana what is it?'
'Wickham was found dead this morning. He was shot.'
'What? Wickham is dead? I don't understand how?'
'That is a mystery, just like the others it would seem that Wickham wasn't that important to CGS or he was starting to be a liability.'
'Ok thanks Dana I guess I will be there in about an hour.' Elizabeth said getting up.
'Can't wait cousin, boy is everyone in for a surprise.'
'Yeah,' Elizabeth said sighing and hanging up the phone.
'What do you mean Wickham is dead Liz?'
'Exactly that. Dana says that they are going to tell everyone because the case with Wickham I was placed into protected custody and now that he is dead I can come back. So we gotta get back to the city and prepare for my resurrection.' Elizabeth said kissing him on the lips smiling.
Part 15
2 weeks later.
'Elizabeth are you here?'
'Yes Georgie. I am in the kitchen. How was your class?' Elizabeth asked as her boyfriend's younger sister walked in.
'Fine, boy its great that you are back I have missed you.' Georgie said walking over to her and hugging her. 'I keep thinking this is a dream and I am going to wake up and you are gone.'
'Well I am not going anywhere Georgie, the only way that is going to happen if your brother doesn't want me around anymore.' Elizabeth said smiling at her.
'Not want you around anymore? Never, in fact I want you here always.' William said walking into the kitchen and kissing her.
'Hi Will.'
'Hello little sister,' William said hugging her. 'How was class?'
'Great, mmm that smells great Liz when is dinner?'
'In about 10, could you set the table please?'
'Yeah,' Georgie said walking out humming.
'I am glad that is over honey, she is better now that you are back.'
'You and her both I suppose. And I am glad that is over. But in a way it isn't whomever killed Wickham knows that we found out and that is what scares me now. If they killed him who's to stop them from killing us.'
'Everything has been quiet in that respect for the past 2 weeks honey.' William said embracing her. 'Liz I wanted to wait until everything to calm down before I asked you this, so here goes. Elizabeth Bennet will you...'
RING! RING!
'Hang on a second honey. Hello?'
'Elizabeth Bennet?'
'Yes this is she? Who is this?'
'That isn't important Special Agent Bennet, what is important is that you tell Mulder and Scully as well as your boyfriend to stop this investigation or your A.D. will never find out what happen to his lovely wife.' Click the line went dead.
