Chapter One ~ Commander Darcy of Pembria

Posted on Friday, 12 January 2007

Commander Darcy strode onto the battlefield, Captain Wentworth and General Knightly in tow. The war band sent from King Wickam had successfully been vanquished, but, this brief battle was hardly the end of the war. "Captain!"

    "Yes,commander?"

    "Report the casualties."

The Captain took a moment to figure, then he answered. "Of our warband, 52, of King Wickam's, 92 out of 200,the rest have been taken prisoner. 21 of our band are wounded."

    "Are they being tended to?"

    "Yes,commander."

Darcy sighed wearily. "I give you leave to rest." The two men departed, and Commander Darcy was left alone on the field. He knelt in the dirt, and took a muddied ring from the dirt. It was a golden band inset with 4 rubies, and made for an engagement. He saw the secret meaning and then, knowing that the soldier who had the ring was dead, he pocketed it, and strode to his tent.

He entered the tent with the authority of a king. He laid the ring on the portable mettalic desk, and proceeded to pore over his maps of Pembria, and Wickam's land, Entriato. Thankfully, he had not lost to many men, but it would still be best to be cautious. "I underestimated him once, much to my folly," he thought aloud. Darcy distractedly fingered the stubble on his face, and looked into the hand mirror mounted on the wall of his metal tent. He was a wreck.
