I love reading the continuing stories here...such creativity!! Eventually, I may get my nerve up to post a story of my own, but 'til then, I'm happy to read everyone else's work.

I got hooked on Jane Austen just a few short months ago when I read Sense and Sensibility for my term paper. I absolutely fell in love with her characters and immediately started on Pride and Prejudice. I also started looking for Austen stuff on the internet and found this site. Great stuff! I love your stories! They are absolutely marvelous, and from what I've seen so far, the Dwiggies are an interesting group.

And has the address: Send Mail toTo start of with, I found this place almost a year ago or it's been a year, I cannot recall. I was first introduced to Jane Austen's novels in high school. Once I started reading P&P, I could not stop. I had to finish it and ever since then, I was hooked. It is still one of my favourite book of all time.
Before finding this place, I have always wondered whether there were sequels written by other authors about P&P. So I got on the internet and I happen to find this place amongst the many list of sites to choose from. I am extremely grateful for this site because there are so many wonderful stories out there. It allows me to live in a fantasy world where JA's character seems to live on & come alive.
I am also in love with "Anne of Green Gables" I have all 8 books and I love them. Some of my favourite quotes from AOGG are:"Tomorrow is always fresh with no mistakes in it"
"True friends are always together in spirits"
"It's not what the world holds out for you that matters, it's what you bring to it"I just thought I'd share those with you.

Well, the world in my head is much more interesting.
At present, oh well, for the last three years, there's been an on-going discussion whom of the Austen hunks I should worship. Believe me, it gives you quite a headache when all your shizoprenic egos yell at the same time. Little example? Here we go:
Darcy is soooo handsome and passionate... - But he can't write a decent love letter! I say Wentworth is our man. I can go no longer in silence - Oh, do shut up! Knightley is everything that is perfect. - NOOOOOO, Brandon, it has to be Brandon! He's Alan Rickman! - Well, he has a terribly huge nose. I'm sorry, but you are all wrong. Tilney is perfect for us. He's so mature and witty and he doesn't mind if we read rather silly novels. - *huff* I don't read silly novels. I'm the perfect ego. - Oh, yes, you do. Remember last week they start bickering in the background - Colonel Hotpants is a conversationalist, too. And he's a Studmuffin! - We need passion! What do we want with witty conversation? We have our gay friends for that. No, passion is required! In vain have I struggled - Last bit of sensibility runs in and beats all the egos upside the head, effectively silencing them (read: beating them unconscious). Sorry 'bout that.Scared? Yeah, me too. And it's like that ALL the time! You haven't heard them when the discussion is really heated.
Wish I'd never seen any filmed version of JA's! Then I could have gone on living my life (insanity-free, I thank you), reading and re-reading the books again and again and had probably settled on Wentworth (ooooh, that letter!).
But noooooo, I had to go and watch the movies. Grmph. And since then bloody Colin Firth and Anthony Calf and Jeremy Northam and Alan Rickman ... you get the picture ... are marching up and down in my head. (And no, Laurence Olivier is not marching. In retrospective (about half a year after seeing the film), I always think P&P0 is extremely funny but each time I happen to see it again I become extremely angry b/c they butchered the book so much! But somehow I end watching it whenever they're broadcasting it. Very bad for blood pressure.)
No, I take that back. I can't imagine life without the wet shirt or The Look. *siiiiiiiiiiiigh*
Short excursion to real life:
I'm not without aims in life. Short term goal is to find MY Mr. Darcy (will undergo yearly change until I'm 28 and trying to find MY Wentworth and when I'm thirty I'll go and join a convent).
Long term goal is to take over the world by the means of Vodka. (So you better get used to calling me Her Highness, The One And Only, Our Beloved Regent!) My fellow regents (two of my best friends) and I have already divided the world. Oh, and I better warn you. Persons that arouse our displeasure will be send to the distilleries in Siberia or to the grand ice plantages in Antarctica. MWUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I case you wondered... No, I'm not on drugs. Well, except the legal ones, being nicotine and coffeine (lots and LOTS of coffeine).
...erm...yes...well...that's all, I guess.

Is From: PennsylvaniaI discovered the Republic of Pemberley when I typed "Jane Austen" into a search engine. After some time at RoP, I surfed over here. I tend to lurk for a long, long time before posting, as I don't like to butt in before I know what I am doing. You might sat that I think myself ill-qualified to recommend myself to strangers. At RoP I'm an occasional poster, but here I've just lurked until now.
Reading JA fanfic is my secret vice. I have never written any of my own, although some (mostly humorous) ideas have floated through my mind at times. I also read (besides JA) the Brontes, Agatha Christie, Henry James, and C. S. Lewis, to name just a few. I am in general an insatiable reader and I love classics. My favorite movies are The Princess Bride, The Mission, Star Wars, and the recent Lord of the Rings, besides (of course!!!) P&P2.
In real life I have just graduated from college with an art major and English literature minor. Oddly enough, with such a combination, I'm not sure what to do next. I may spend another year studying painting privately.
I have a boyfriend who scoffs at my JA obsession, and accuses me of reading trashy romance when I get too involved in the latest posts, but on the whole he is very fond of me. He reminds me of a younger, happier Mr. Bennet, and I would be lost without him.

And has the address: Send Mail toI'm guessing I'm one of the youngest people here. I'm 14 live in Australia and only know TWO other people that have read Jane Austen. And only one of them is as obsessed as I am. I read PnP when I was in....year six I think (11 years old) and then I saw the movie with Colin Firth and Jennifer Ehle and I was hooked!
I didn't discover this site until the beginning of this year but am making up for lost time by reading EVERY story I can in the archives. I also love anything Regency but have lots of other interests. I won't bore you by telling you about them though....
I love R&B music (Nelly, Destiny's Child etc) but I DO NOT like Britney. Sorry to all those britney fans but I don't see the appeal. I also play piano and violin...there isn't much else about me worth telling....hhhhmmm.....
I also have this uncanny ability to babble on about nothing imparticular-Mrs. Bennet's lung capacity. hehehehe! Unlike some people here-I'm not totally in love with Mr. Darcy but don't despair for I DO luv Lizzy. And I hope no one will shoot me if I say I don't mind Lady Katherine de Bourgh that much either. In some bizarre way she's kinda cool!

Is From: UtahMy favorite Jane Austen book is Pride and Prejudice. My mom kept hounding me to read it (since it's her favorite book too), and I finally gave in in the ninth grade and decided to read it. I didn't really truly appreciate it until I saw the movie, and I fell in love with it then and there. After I saw the movie, I was so into Pride and Prejudice that I went searching for websites, and found this one. (Now I guess I'm hooked on it).
About me:
I live in Utah (but I'm not LDS). I'm currently in high school and trying my best to survive (we don't read anything interesting!). My other favorite books are anything Harry Potter and The Counte of Monte Cristo. My favorite movies are Pride and Prejudice, Jawbreaker, and The Mummy.
Kathlyn
Is From: NYC, NY, USA
And has the address: Send Mail toI think that I've been holding out on this in the hopes that I'd be able to invent a more interesting life...
My real name is Kathleen... I chose Kathlyn because I couldn't bear to be a numbered Kathleen when I first started haunting Pemberley nearly two years ago (has it really been that long?). I'm a librarian at a small private girls school that happens to have at least 14 "Kathleen" variants on staff and I believe that I was having an identity crisis at the time!
I just turned 30, live in New York City in a two-room studio with my husband, and enjoy reading, going out to hear music (husband is a musician -- the gutterpoets of my e-mail) and watch films. When I'm not here, I'm probably either babysitting (two darling sisters, 2 and 5) or going to a meeting -- church... I'm an "elder" (*snort* - couldn't even leave my twenties before that happened) in a wonderfully small, mission-oriented church.
Other than that -- I like mysteries (Anne Perry is a perennial fave), am a part of a book group (very interesting mix of women that only read contemporary women's fiction), and seem to use punctuation creatively -- but not necessarily correctly,(,,,;:"'!).
I'm tremendously grateful to Ann for her tenacious spirit and committment to this internet community! How many of us would have found a way to continue this after RoP decided that the non-Regency stories had little value?
;-)

Other favorite books: Anything by Patricia McKillip or Robin McKinley, "The Mists of Avalon", Sylvia Plath, Dorothy Parker, Emily Dickinson, Shel Siverstein, J.R.R Tolkein, the Amelia Peabody books, and "The Princess Bride." Oh, and the Harry Potter books. (I told you I love reading!)
Favorite movies: "Breakfast at Tiffany's", "The Princess Bride", "The Nightmare before Christmas", "Fargo", "My Fair Lady", "Casablanca", the old version of "Sabrina", "Raiders of the Lost Ark", "The Empire Strikes Back", "Beauty and the Beast", and "Zero Effect". And any Bond flick with Sean Connery. (My hero!)
Idol: Audrey Hepburn
Most prized possesions: my old-movie poster collection, my much-loved stuffed bear, my books, and my flute.
Favorite place: Cape Hatteras National Seashore. (For me, it will always be the most beautiful place in the world-- and it's only a 2-hour drive!)
Ideal JA hero: Edward's shyness, Darcy's passion, Brandon's utter niceness, and Knightley's noble-ness. And, of course, Henry Tilney's sense of humor.
Personality: I'm a quiet, idealistic person with a wicked sense of humor and a mother-hen impulse that surfaces in the strangest places ... (wry smile.) I don't talk much but I tend to be passionate about, well, everything. And I'm stubborn and reserved.
Other stuff about me: I've lived most of my life in rural North Carolina, but for the last two years I've been a student at Rice University in Houston. (Biocheistry major, but that may well change to English.) I don't quite have a Scarlett O'Hara accent, but it's close! I enjoy writing, but haven't posted any JA fics here -- at least not yet. But I love reading them -- y'all are so talented!
Most important people in my life: My younger sister (Amy), my mother (Susan), my best friend (DJ), my dog (Cassie), and my bear (Koaly).
I think that's about it. :)kw

And a link: Here is a homepage I made a long, long time ago...Well, I hopped over here from The Republic of Pemberley after hearing so much about this place. I'm anxious to snoop around the site and learn just exactly what it is that you do here.
I am an advertising major and Medieval studies minor at Marquette University (Milwaukee, WI), graduating in 2002. Then I will probably go back home to Minnesota and get a good job, get married, have children, and live a long, happy life. Then again, none of that may happen. So...I guess I'll just leave all that in God's capable hands!
I was introduced to Jane Austen when my mother and I watched the 1940's version of P&P when I was 12. But it was not until my eyes first beheld Colin Firth's face as the incarnation of Mr. Darcy, that I felt an insatiable urge to know everything about Miss Austen's works. And that urge has still not been surpressed, no matter how much I feed it!
Kathy
Is From: Wisconsin, USA
And has the address: Send Mail toWell, what is there to tell? First of all, I was born the 18th of January, 1983. My real name is Kathleen, and though I once was known as Katie, there seemed to be an overabundance of them, so changed it to Kathy. Right now I'm a senior in high school, though I've been taking classes there since eighth grade. I have two brothers (one older, one younger), and I still live with both my parents. I don't have any pets, as I manage to somehow kill all of them within weeks (though I did own Yin and Yang, my guinea pigs, for four years). I do have a fish on my computer named Darcy that I take care of every day, and haven't let it die yet.
I fell in love with JA when I began my classics binge in my freshman year. Of all her novels, I read P&P first, and absolutely adore it. I have been an avid writer since my elementary school career, writing anything that came to my mind. I first came across the RoP, and wrote there for the BoI, but then progressed to here. I love to write JA-related things, though am now trying to start my own, completely different stories. Even if that goes well, though, I don't think I can give up my P&P take-offs.
I don't have a boyfriend right now, but I'm perfectly fine with that. In fact, I almost prefer it that way. I have a close group of friends, though, that supports me with all of my stories and poetry. I'm still trying to get some of them to try Austen, though I've converted a few. ;-)
My dream in life is to become a world-renowned scientist, own a large house, and visit England and Australia every year, if not more often. I guess I'll just have to hope.

I studied JA whilst studying in the UK as an exchange student, persuing my degree in Anthropology/Sociology. Have also got a BS in Business Mgt. and presently am a database programmer for the Human Resources dept at a major textiles firm in North Carolina. My mother was born in the UK to a British mum and a Texan father; they moved to the US when she was 2. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, Calif., and moved to North Carolina with my family when I was 15 and have lived here ever since except for the aforementioned term in the UK and a couple of years in the Washington DC area.
One legacy from my mother and grandmother is that I tend to spell like a British person; it drives my assistant crazy as she tries to keep up with my weird writing. LOL
My favourite JA novel is P&P
My favourite JA character is Elinor from S&S

I am 17 years old, and my birthday is on May 16. I live in a suburb of San Diego, and will graduate from high school in June. I plan to go to the College of Creative Studies at the University of California at Santa Barbara and major in literature.
I first read Jane Austen (Sense and Sensibility, of all books) for an English class in 9th grade and I haven't put her down since. My favorite is Pride and Prejudice, but Northanger Abbey comes in a close second. My favorite JA movie is P&P2, but I also like Emma1 & 2, Clueless, and Sense and Sensibility. I found the Republc of Pemberley in 1997 when I was searching for pages on Jeremy Northam, but my activities have since transferred to the DWG! ;)
As far as other literary/cinematic/musical tastes, here is a short list of favorites: E.M. Forrester, Nick Hornby, The X-Files and "Friends" (my current obsession), Dave Matthews (my other current obsession), and "Singin' In The Rain."

Is From: Minnesota, USAFirst Austen Novel I Read: Pride and Prejudice during my senior year of high school--I read all of Jane Austen's novels after that, and submitted my teacher to months of literature logs about them. (He finally told me I needed to read something a little more edgy, and reccommended Tom Robbins' "Jitterbug Perfume.")
How/when I found the DWG: I was in a research/writing seminar during my senior year of college. Our assignment was to prove the historical significance of a primary source in a 35+ page paper--I chose Jane Austen's letters. My first Internet search led to the Republic of Pemberley. I became hooked on Bits of Ivory, and discovered the DWG a few weeks later. I never thought I would be brave enough to post. It took me about a month to de-lurk, and about two more months to submit my first story. It's been a little over three years...
About Me: I graduated from college 2 1/2 years ago, I still don't know what I want to do with my life. I plan to enter graduate school in 2003. My greatest passions (besides the people in my life) are reading and travel.
I apologize for not posting my e-mail address anymore...I got way too much spam, and would rather not put it in the public domain. If you would like it, leave a message for me in the tea room

Is From: Midwest for ten years, grew up in Los Angeles
And has the address: Send Mail toI am a mid-centurion, having turned 50 this year, 2001. I am married, living in the Midwest, and we have one married son. It is interesting that our son, who is in his senior year at a university, has wanted to be a writer since he was 4 years old, reciting things to us as we wrote them down for him. Now one of his greatest desires is to be an author, but he loves to read, also.
I never felt any leaning toward writing until I was so inspired by Pride and Prejudice, both the movie and the book, that I wrote a short story, The Talk. My second short story, Words Remembered was an attempt to fill in some scenes from the movie that I though needed tying in together.
My third, and current attempt, Assumed Engagement is already in its 13th chapter. I would never have thought I could do write a story this involved, but this story has literally written itself. What I do after I have completed it is yet to be seen.
I think one reason I love the story of Pride and Prejudice, and all the fiction written about it, is because, to me, it is the perfect romantic novel. And I am a romantic at heart, as I was born on the most romantic of all days, Valentines Day!

I'm in my early thirties (my love of all things Jane Austen hasn't lessened since my introduction in high school!), and like a certain Austen character, "I am not a great reader and enjoy many things". My personal faves include Persuasion and P & P. I did a bit of traveling through Europe last year in August (5 countries in 25 days - wonderful!) and my goal is to go to England next year to take a look around at the locales mentioned in JA's books. Fanfic is my favorite area of the site, thank you authors for giving me many hours of pleasant diversions!
Hope to hear from my fellow dwiggies!

And a link: Kendra Crispin's Website of Fanfic and HumorOkay... I'm 16 going on 17 in only two months from when I posted this. I am finished with high school as I have my GED. I'll be looking into college later this year after my special summer trip. It'll be local, but I'm not sure where.
My first experience with Jane Austen was the Wishbone episode that dealt with P&P. Not the best way to introduce a teenager to JA, but it got me interested. Then I watched A&E's P&P2, and was delighted! I next saw Sense and Sensibility in the theater, and Persuasion through a rental. I then read through the books in the following order: S&S, Persuasion, P&P, MP, NA, and Emma. I actually finished Emma before seeing the Paltrow version of Emma. The next year I saw the A&E version of Emma, then that old version of NA, and then my parents bought me a copy of the BBC version of MP from the 80s. If anything firmly entrenched my dislike of Henry Crawford, it was watching that older version of MP. I have not seen the most recent one, and will not until it comes to the local Blockbuster.
I have a wide range of interests, and also enjoy reading and writing fanfic. I hope to have some JA fic for you to all sink your teeth into soon, but it usually is pushed aside by my Star Trek ideas. My website has many of my Trek stories up, but I still have many more ideas where they came from! I also accept submissions, but there are kind of fic that I will not have on my site. You know, everybody has their own taste.
Favorite stories from the DWG - in no particular order: Kiss and Cry, Just Kiss Me, All Because of You, Janet and Elizabeth, Pride in Space!, Sometimes a Great Notion, Marianne's Perserver, As If By Chance, An Honest Approach, Introducing Puck, The Missing Link, But Seen in a Prudentual Light... (I think that's what it's called), and probably others that aren't coming to me right now. Oh, I also like the Law & Order crossover that one author started.

It's true. That's why I love it here. So I've been here a couple of years and have even written a story in which we learned that Edward Ferrars is funny and charming, Lucy Ferrars has bad taste in clothes and James Rushworth & Anne Steele are soulmates. Anyway it occured to me that I ought to inroduce myself.
I've just graduated from a University whose name shall be censored because I'm not overly fond of it and don't need a lawsuit for slander or libel. I wonder which one this would count as? I tend to wonder about strange stuff.
I read Pride and Prejudice for the first time when I was 11 years old (and please excuse the heresy here, my life would lose all meaning if I were excommunicated from the DWG) and I didn't really get it. Then when I was 14, I started watching Days of our Lives (this is still my favourite show) around the same time a teacher recommended Emma to me. Now I'm not trying to suggest that Marlena's possession (you really don't want to know) is at all similar to Mr. Woodhouse or anything, but Days gave me the idea of looking at JA's characters as regular people rather than imaginary characters. With that perspective, I enjoyed Emma so much that I decided to give P&P another chance. And the rest is history. Although the part where I fell out of my chair laughing when I noticed the similarities between Clueless and Emma does bear mentionning.
I think for the sake of not having this intro run to 20 pages I'll end with a quick list of Kerry-related JA facts.
Favourite JA book: Emma
Favourite JA based movie: Emma (with Gwyneth Paltrow and Jeremy Northam)
Favourite JA character: Henry Tilney
JA Adaptation that most made me want to demand my money back: Patricia Rozema's Mansfield Park (summary: Good movie, bad adaptation of MP)
JA character I most resemble: not sure, but I pray it isn't Mrs. Bennet
Favourite JA villain: Lady Susan Vernon
Favourite JA semi-villain: Augusta Elton
Biggest JA disappointment: John Willoughby and Henry Crawford made it to the end of their books (S&S and MP), I had hoped for sort of carriage accident. Although as you may know, I did dispense with Willoughby in one of my stories.
JA character who should have had to marry Mr. Collins: Elizabeth Elliot
JA character who most deserved a Lady Catherine lecture: Isabella Thorpe
JA hero who most redeemed himself at the end of the book: Mr. Darcy
JA hero with the best romantic lines: Capt. Wentworth

And has the address: Send Mail toFirstly I have to say that I hate self-description. The writer usually gets it completely wrong by either over-estimating or under-estimating their accomplishments, which in itself really says a lot more about the person than some long winded description.
I am lucky enough to live in the most beautiful place in Australia (well I think it is) the details of which I won't reveal because everyone will then want to come here and it won't be such a pleasant secret anymore. I have a beach very close to my front door and some quite spectacular rainforest close to my backdoor, which all sounds very nice (and I have to admit I rather like), but for all you northern hemisphere arachnophobes is full of rather deadly red-back spiders and very deadly brown snakes. I haven't even started on the sharks at the beach, some of which I like to go scuba diving with when they congregate for their annual breeding season. So apart from watching sharks shagging and beating off snakes with a stick, I also like to read ....quite a lot! I have given up TV for the brain-deadening, mind-numbing brainwash that it is, and have gone back to the old-ways of reading and story telling. Fortunately in a reasonably short space of time my eyes are protesting and I find that I have evolved to the point where I can now no longer focus on the TV (unless I get glasses) but can read something in front of me quite easily.
I live with my partner, who is beginning to feel he has been overthrown for a computer and keyboard. But if I said Mr Darcy to him he would say 'Who?' , so what am I to do with such an unevolved male. He hates bonnet dramas and can't understand why I want to write about something that didn't happen two hundred years ago. He likes thrillers, sci-fi and horror movies, which I think is absolute trash. Incidentally he also produces video and TV....so he likes to watch a lot of it. Thankfully there are lots of other things that we have in common (we do like the same music) and so we get a long just fine.
I have two boys (3 and 5) who bite my ankles and pull my hair when I am writing (which should prove very handy for dealing with girls when they get to school). Sometimes they are kind enough to laugh at my stories, politely of course as I'm sure they have no idea what I am on about most of the time. One is in training to be a ballet dancer; the other is intent on being a world championship wrestler....so as you can guess they fight a lot. I am still at a loss as to how I managed to produce two children that would want to do either.
I refuse to discuss my day job, which is quite boring, very frustrating, and involves playing around with computers and annoying my managers as much as I can. I delight in sending them e-mails which I know that they will not understand, which is my small, and probably very ineffective way, of getting back at the corporate beast that I work for.
I aspire to be a writer, as we all do. I just have to come up with something good to write about besides Pride and Prejudice, which we all know has been done before, quite well.
That's about it!

I'm 18 years old and in my first year of Uni, studying medicine. I grew up on a cattle property in north western Queensland and did school of the air till I was twelve then I went to boarding school.I finally decided to check this place out after my best freind Margie-Louise told me about it......several times....
*jokes sweetie*. I live on college and consequently eat a lot of bad food, get very little sleep, drink far too much and get no work done. Okay, I actually get a lot of work done, I have yet to discover *how* I fit it all in, but when I learn I'll be sure to tell you.I like motorbikes, swimming, horseriding, soccer, footy, action flicks, books of any kind, dirty cowboys (the cocktail) and mustering. I'd probably be a total bloke if it wasn't for Margie who has instilled in me a love of girly movies, ballet - after dragging me along to a million recitals - and shopping. She's also the one who got me started on JA and the rest is history.
If you can't tell from the name, I'm half Irish. My dad was born on the west coast of Ireland and actually went to school with Margie's dad back *home* which is how we met. I've been to Ireland once when I was seven and once to Italy, speak pretty good Italian, very bad Russian and a tiny bit of greek.
I don't have a favourite story here, I think they're all great and everyone who has written one or two or three....you have my sincerest admiration. One day I will officially de-lurk and post a story......promise!!

Iīm 16 years old,(17 on 6th July!) and Iīve always loved Jaqne Austenīs books.Which,by the way,are not well-known here.Itīs terribly frustrating!I want to become a computer engineer someday, and Iīm a Star Wars freak( of the first trilogy at least).I like Ally McBeal(which,as EVERYTHING else arrives a year later to Spain!),the X files,Charlotte Brontë,Ewan McGregor,Harrison Ford,Colin Firth and nearly any kind of music. In fact,I just fall in love with a certain song and torture my family by singing it continually!
My family. My father,an opera freak who thinks he shouldīve ended as Pavarotti instead of being a doctor. My stepmom, who is a cleaning freak and is always doing something, even if itīs cleaning the WALLS!!(Honestly!)My mum,who I donīt see(she and my dad got a divorce). My two brothers,Joaquin and Marco, who are older than me and instead of spoiling me (as they should) just make my life more difficult.I love Joaquin, but Marco is really trying(my poor nerves!).
I also have a foxterrier,Yonk, who is a dear.Iīm considered the brainy one of the family and I have a terribly unuseful memory for quotes, lyrics and other non-useful data.
I promise to do my best to become a good dwiggie and never forget this page or the great people who nearly live here!
