The Baronetage

Sir Walter Elliot was a man who, for his own amusement, never took up any book but the Baronetage; there he found occupation for an idle hour, and consolation in a distressed one; and there, if every other leaf were powerless, he could read his own history with an interest which never failed.

I am really bored tonight and no one is in chat so I've decided to post my spectacularly boring bio...
Truth be told, normal people wouldn't find it spectacularly boring, in fact, I believe that they would find it downright eccentric, but since not many of us on the 'net and especially the DWG can be considered normal...
I'm Sam (that's a nickname, yes, I am a girl), and I'm somewhere between sixteen going on 25 and sixteen going on three (not really sure which, today I feel 21...) I'm a JA addict ("Hi my name is Sam and I have a problem" "Hiii Saaammm")even though I haven't read all of her books yet- but I'm working on it. My addiction is mostly based on anything and everything P&P, though I also love S&S the movie, particularly because of a certain Colonel Brandon... did I mention I'm a Rickmaniac also?
My other favorite authors are Terry Brooks and Susan Kay and the ever amazing JK Rowling (Harry Potter all the way), though my book interests range from Manga to Victor Hugo to Robert Jordan and Calvin & Hobbes. Fav. movies are pretty damn varied too, some of them including, of course, P&P (A&E), Monty Python, The Matrix, Spiderman, Beauty and the Beast, Moulin Rouge, and the Nightmare before Christmas. I like to watch Witchblade, Buffy, the Pretender (though it's now only reruns), the Dead Zone, and I'm just now getting into Monk, it's so cute!
Favorite actresses: I only really have one, Julia Roberts (oh, but I do like Yancy Butler)
Fav. actors: ah, where to begin... Ewan Mcgregor (can't spell his name, but damn! can he sing), Colin Firth (the ONLY true Darcy), Eric Etibari ('cause he's so damn hot), James Marsters (for the same reason), Hugh Grant, and who could forget the ever wonderful... Alan Rickman.
My other loves include Phantom of the Opera (the world's greatest love story besides P&P), Soccer, writing, art, fanfiction, and naps. Oh, and also thinking up comebacks, being melodramatic, and leaving sentences ended with a ...
I am hoping to go to college in England and to eventually to become an Egyptologist, and to publish a novel. Greatest Wish? To go back in time and snag a Darcy of my own, or to meet one in my own time period.
And here's a neat fact: My sister, who is absolutly beautiful with waist length dark hair and light eyes, is an auto mechanic with a spitfire temper but a great personality... and she's named Elizabeth. Once I found out about P&P I thought it would fit her so perfectly, and then the other day I found a story where Elizabeth Bennet is a car mechanic! It was so...kinda unnerving that I stopped and didn't even read the story, but I'm hoping to see it lived out in real life...sigh. Also, I have blond hair and blue eyes, but I'm younger, and no Jane, since our personality's match.
Sooo... love me, hate me, can't decide? Email me or IM at firefly8679 and we'll talk! I love to make new friends!

Well, where to start? Umm I was born 25 April 1974 in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe) to Portuguese parents and migrated to Australia in '77. Nothing remarkable with primary school or high school apart from the fact that I talked too much and read all the books that weren't on the reading list (yes I'm a bit stubborn, don't like being told what to do) and met my future husband. Persuasion, Emma and Mansfield Park were recommended reading in my final year of school, and I hate to say it, but I didn't like them. I work as a secretary at a financial company and got married in '97 to MY Mr Darcy, Robert. No kids yet. I'm ashamed to say that I had never read P&P until I saw a repeat of the BBC production of Pride and Prejudice in '99. I just couldn't wait until the following week so I went out and bought the tapes and from then on, my poor husband would arrive home for about a month with me on the couch watching it over and over, completely oblivious to the fact I should have been cooking, needless to say, we lost a bit of weight in that month (could that be a new diet? The Pride & Prejudice diet - no food, just liquids for a month) So far I've managed to convert my sister-in-laws, my mother & mother-in-law, my auntie and I'm working on my younger cousins, neice and nephew. Another 2 neices or nephews are to be born this year, so I've bought the mothers the videos, got to get them when they're young!

After that I finally realised, that I LOVE Jane Austen, and I'm kicking myself that it took so long! Pride and Prejudice, closely followed by Persuasion are my favourites.
I have never written any stories, but there is no greater joy, than logging on and finding all the
new posts and catching up with archived stories.

I am 18 and I live in France . I am a great fan of Jane Austen and especially of Pride and prejudice. I am french so I still have to progress in english . I often make mistakes( I hope you will forgive me !).
I also love horses and I ride since I have 7 . I love the JA fan fictions and I check everyday to see if there is something new in the stories in progress I am following.

I've been lurking here for a while now and thought it was about time I did one of these things even though I have no idea what to put! So I warn you stop reading now if staying awake is a priority!

Ok starting with where I live. That would be in the West Country of England. Any jokes about a) "Ohh arr" cool Cider c) Tractors d) White Picket Fences (?) don't bother, I've heard them! And still remain proud of where I live!

At the moment I am in Sixth form doing (against my better judgement) English Literature, History, Psychology and Sociology. The one relief is that I am studying Pride and Prejudice in my English Lit class, joy of joys! I now have an excuse to indulge in Austen for hours (not that I didn't before!) In fact it was because of that that I found this site, so gratitude goes to examiner!

I first got to know Austen through the latest PandP adaption, my favourite Austen character of all times stands as Mr Bennet. I love his dry humour which is very simliar to my own.

Ancestry: This one takes some explaining, I am at the moment part English, Irish, Scottish, Welsh and American. It takes more time to explain then I can be bothered with, suffice to say, all the blame lies with my dad's side of the family!

In my spare time (although recently I have had to ask myself what that is) I enjoy reading, reading and reading! Apart from that I like shopping, chatting with friends and my daily visits to the ROP and DWG to see what the rest of you are up to.

My favourite books change regularly although I do have all-time favourites, P and P obviously and I love the Jeeves and Wooster series by P.G Wodehouse.

I am not sure how you are supposed to end these things, with a poignant memorable message or what so instead I am just going to share a few of my favourite quotes with you and say all the best and happy Dwiggying (New word?)

"A little rebellion now and then is always a good thing"

"All who wander are not lost"

    "Absolute power corrupts absolutely"

There are other but for your snaity and mine, I'll stop right there!

    Here's a pic:

Since I'm doing this of my own free will, I shouldn't complain about not knowing what to write, since I should've thought about that before, but, I don't always do what I should, or shouldn't, so I'm going to complain anyway. I don't know what to write!

That is, I guess, a rather good explanation of who I am. I never do what people think I should do, at least, not very often. I am what other people might call strange. Actually, I think strange isn't enough. Never mind. Not many think that I'm normal, and that's how I want it. The last thing I'd like to be is normal. I hate normality.

Some things about me is however normal, at least here. In other places they are not ('How can you like Jane Austen? And Pride and Prejudice? It's sooo boring!' and 'You think Colin Firth is good-looking???? He's old!'). I started liking Jane Austen when I was eleven and saw P&P2 the first time. I liked Mr Darcy then, but since I was afraid to be abnormal back then, I said I didn't. This was mainly because my friend, Marika, hated him so much that she screamed as soon as she saw him (or, really, when she saw Colin Firth). Since then, I have read all Austen-books, my favorites being Pride and Prejudice and Persuation. I have seen most of the movies and I love P&P2, Persuation (the one with Ciarin Hines, don't know if there's any others) and Emma (the one with Kate Beckinsale, hate the Gwyneth Paltrow version).

Other books I like are: Every DiscWorld-book I have ever read (you can do nothing but love Death!), most Katarina von Bredow-books (I have her autograph) and John Marsden's books about some Australian teens who escape being imprisoned when their country is invaded. And, I'm sure, loads of other books that I don't remember right now.

Other movies I like are: Swing Kids, Dead Poets Society (these two movies are great because of everyting, but the fact that Robert Sean Leonard stars in both of them isn't exactly bad), Shooting Fish (love everything about it, especially the music), Monty Python And The Holy Grail (Brave Sir Robin rode forth from Camelot. He was not afraid to die, oh brave Sir Robin!) and a lot of other movies.

Music: I like a lot of different kinds of music, but not pop. Well, I guess some of the groups I like play what others might call pop, but it's not the usual kind of pop (like the one Britney Spears or Backstreet Boys make).
I like Savage Garden, BrainStorm (or Prata Vetra as they are called in Latvia), Imperiet (Swedish group from the 80's who played punk - got to love them!), LOK (Swedish hardrock group, that no one outside of Sweden's ever heard of), Hardcore Superstar (Swedish hardcore), The Ark (Swedish band that plays some kind of 80's music, although they do it now) and some classical music.

For not knowing what to write, I must say that I have written a bit. Too much I'm afraid.

Oh, about the picture: I'm not tri-colored in real life, I just like to fiddle around with pics in Photoshop :)

Let's see I am 21 years old. I am in college, majoring in accounting. Don't hold it against me though! angel I'll offer up that I am minoring in History. Hope that appeases some people. I am the middle child with an older brother and a younger sister. Still living with my parents while I go to school. The University of Arkansas is about 5 minutes away from my house.

I first became a Jane Austen freak when the A&E adapation came on. After that I read everything that I could get my hands that she had written.

Other authors/books that I love: Anything by Stephen Lawhead. He writes alot about Celtic legends and Arthur, stuff like that. My favorite trilogy of his is the Song of Albion. READ IT IF YOU HAVEN'T!!!! Robin McKinley's Blue Sword. I have read probably 8-9 times. She has some wonderful books out. Tom Clancy is awesome. Without Remorse is my favorite. I don't know I have a thing for Mr. Clark. Victoria Holt is another favorite author of mine. I LOVE Ivanhoe by Scott. Of course Shakespeare, my favorite would have to be Much Ado About Nothing. I could go on and on but will stop there for now. If you ever want to talk books with someone, you will always find a ready and willing ear with me.

On to movies: A&E's P&P, Long Hot Summer, Rebecca, Cold Comfort Farm, Hunt for Red October, Star Wars(trilogy), Memphis Belle, Gladiator, Braveheart, Much Ado About Nothing, Patriot, Black Swan, Big Jake, McClintock, The Quiet Man, Princess' Bride, Goonies, Last of the Mohicans, Girls Just Want to Have Fun, Grosse Point Blank, George of the Jungle, A&E's Ivanhoe, Robin Hood (old), Sneakers, Leave Her to Heaven, To Each His Own, Cool Hand Luke, Great Escape, Midway, In Harm's Way, Scarlet Pimpernal, Abyss, and a WHOLE LOT MORE.

Anyway, I love movies and reading. If you can't tell. I haven't posted anything on the site yet but I would like to if I ever get the nerve. Once school is out I can maybe have some fun and do that. Lots of ideas in my gray matter.

I love talking to people so if I am ever in Chatsworth someone PLEASE talk to me. Until then, God Bless.

I am not sure if I should post this, but since I'm currently posting a story, I probably should let you know who I am.

I was born smack in the middle of the Cuban missile crisis. Excitement wise, it has been downhill from there. :-)
I have an M.A. in English and Literature.

I've taught and worked as a translator, but eventually drifted to writing, which is my passion. Or should I say my need?

I write SF/F/Mystery. I've been published in a few magazines and my first novel will come out next October. I have two sons, four cats, a guinea pig and a wonderful husband who always believed in my writing even when I didn't.

I read mostly SF and fantasy, and I love Shakespeare, Jane Austen and -- on a quite different plane -- Alexander Dumas and Sir Walter Scott. I enjoy wood working and furniture refinishing and I do my best plotting work while painting walls.

I've become addicted to Jane Austen fan fic as a work-avoidance technique (actually as a means to rest when I'm burned out.)

Don't expect brilliance in the stories I post, I usually write them because I need to rest but my brain refuses to quit. However, I'm a step from dead tired, when I write them. Also, I'm a lousy speller. :-) Thank heavens for spell checkers.

....But I will try to make them entertaining, because that's the least I can do in return for all the wonderful stories you've allowed me to read in the past year.

Hey evrybody! To answer the "Big questions":

Birthday: August 29, I will be 18 this year- yay!

Education: I am graduating High School this year (praise the lord) and am planning on continuing my education at Millikin University, which is in Illinois. I will be majoring in Musical Theatre and minoring in Philosophy- (hey- I'm a geek)

Favourite JA book: Pride and Prejudice

Favourite JA movie: P&P2 Colin Firth is so awesome!!

Favourite non JA book: Would either be Jane Eyre or anything shakespeare- I'm a brit lit fanatic!

Favourite non JA movie: AMADEUS! I love it so much- it's the best movie ever, I think I could recite it for you. To give you an idea, when I was little, I would drive my babysitters nuts by singing Don Giovanni (complete with gibberish kid- italian) at the top of my lungs. I was a strange kid. Other than that, I love Bridget Jones Diary, Quills (Geoffrey Rush was snubbed at the Oscars), Life is Beautiful, Moulin Rouge and Cabaret.

Comments: I really love this site- I have always loved Jane Austen, but most of my friends thought I was crazy when I would try to get them to watch a five hour movie, or talk about books written so long ago. I am an admirer of all Austen, but Pride and Prejudice is my absolute favorite- Elizabeth Bennet is the best Character in English Literature. (Making room for similar characters, such as Beatrice in Much Ado...)

Other than Austen, I love musicals and film- I am passionate abut music and theatre- and could never imagine myself doing anything else. Some of my fav musicals are: Les Mis, Cabaret, Into the Woods, and Music Man. Plays: Crucible, Inherit the Wind, Proof, Wit. I love to write, and have started my first story on this board (which is moving very slowly due to AP exams and the like). I think I've babled enough, so if you have any questions, email me!

OK, I don't like the bio I wrote many moons ago, so I'll rewrite this to make it more coherent and such, which will be a sight to see if it were to happen.

Anyways, I live in Ohio. I'm finally a Freshman in college! The fun! *rolls eyes* Seriously, I attend Xavier University, which is in Cincinnati, so if anyone is around the area (while I'm going here) send me an email and we can get together or something.

My birthday is on October 5th (the best day of the year if you ask me ; P )...um...*thinks*...hmmm...was born in 1983 (how that is useful in knowing, I don't have a clue).

Jane Austen is my favorite author, of course, with Pride and Prejudice being my favorite book. I also like Shakespeare, Keats, Byron, Dickens, Fitzgerald, and I could go on! Ahem, anyways, I like to read! My friends always thought I was strange for spending money on books! LOL...they'll never understand me.

Hmmm...what else...music! OK, I listen to about any genre. Again, friends found this strange, especially when they would find me listening to classical *shakes head in amusement*. The only thypes I don't like are techno, regae, and um, others I can't think of.

Now onto movies! *cheesy grin* OK, P&P2 is an obvious favorite...then there's BJD...and at the moment, I am watching the Forsyte Saga which I am hooked on! Also love Ever After, Ferris Bueller's Day Off (hey! it's a classic!), (closet) Disney fan, and others that I can't think of. I have been one of the unfortunate souls and have yet to see either TIOBE or Possession. *pouts* I am all anticipation for it to come out on DVD!!!

Colin Firth is my favorite actor *thinks about him and drools*.......er, what was I saying?

The DWG was the first writing community I got involved in, and I LOVE it here! I did post at BOI, that is until they changed their guidelines...oh well...that did what they felt they had to do. At the moment, I am also an active paticipant at the Season. *is always up for anything Austen*

*thinks* *taps fingers* Well, like I said earlier, I enjoy reading. Also, I really enjoy writing, even though most of the time it isn't even coherent, lol. *points to this bio as a prime example* I would some day like to publish a book, but I'm not so sure if that will happen. *sighs* One can hope.

Oh! I also I have a website...sort of...I'm still kind of putting it together...anyways, it will eventually host my stories and others if they want theirs there as well. I'll still post here, it's just that I was bored one day and thought, 'Why not? I have some free time...might as well do something with it!' Well, anyways, if you want to have a look at it, I'll leave a link down below.

Anyways, that's me. One screwed up dwiggie ; P

Favorite Book: Currently is "Bridget Jones" and "Edge of Reason", but that is bound to eventually change.
Favorite Old Book: The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, can't wait till December..hoo ha!

I just graduated from Clemson University (go tigers!) and am going to be attending University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign come the fall of '01. I just recently posted my first story, which I was rather proud of.

Where to begin? I'm 27 and work for an electronic publishing company in Foster City CA. I love JA of course, and spend far to much time here at DWG. I'm addicited to reading, chocolate and diet coke; and I LOVE to travel. I've been to Europe 3 times in the last 6 1/2 years and am planning to go again soon. I went to School in Chattanooga Tenn (Tennesse Temple Univ) and majored in History. I love the stories posted here and am amazed sheer quanty (and quality!) My biggest hang up is that I'm dyslexic, and consiquently mis spell things All The Time! Therefore, please accept my sincerest apologies for what is doubtless a horrific experience; trying to decifer what the heck it is that i'm writting about! :)
My ABSOLUTELY favorite book(s) are the Outlander Series by Diana Gabaldon. Yes, our dear JA comes in a close second on my favorite author list. (Blasphmy I know, but please dont stone me!) :)
Favorite Type of Music is definately Swing. However, I'd like to point out that I loved Swing and Big Band LONG before it was all the rage, and Gap was using it in it's commericals. (I was the only kid in JR. High with a picture of Glen Miller in her locker) I do appreciate the recent surge of new Swing music available though, like the Big Bad VooDo Daddies, and Lavae Smith and her red hot skillet lickers. Not to mention Lee Press on and the Nails.
    OK, on to movies...
P&P2 (was there any doubt?) the Anthony Andrews/Jane Seymore version of the Scarlet Pimpernel (would that be SP2?), which was also my favorite book in High School. I read it in 9th grade and thought that scene at the end of chapter 15 (i think it's called Richmond) where Percy is so overcome by love for Margurite, that he kisses the steps where her foot has trod and the places where her hand had rested, had to be the most romantic thing ever written. ok, more movies -Princess Bride, Father of the Bride I and II, ANYTHING with Cary Grant in it, BraveHeart, Emma, S&S. But of course when (if) they ever get around to making DG's Outlander into a movie that will probably become my favorite. :)
Man of My Dreams: That would have to be James Alexander Malcom Mackensie Faser. However, since he's been dead for quite sometime (about 200 yrs) I'd pretty much settle for almost any sweethearted, huge, redheaded Scotsman. Speaking of which... if you happen to have any (single) in your family around the age of 30 -send word express! ;)

First things first...my name - on official documents I'm Gillian Andrews and since I have auburn hair (I refuse to call it red) and have quite a substansial interest in space, I have ended up being called scully, although I have only ever really watched the X-Files once, maybe twice smile

I am a committed lurker on the DWG which I discovered along with with my friend Helga in our first year of uni about 3 years ago. We have started a story together (Looking at her Strangely - full of jokes which no one but us most likely get) but it's most likely never going to be finished since it acts as stress relief.

My favourite Austen is P&P and Persuasion would now run a close second (although I haven't actually read it - its amazing what Fan Fic can do to you) I also feel I must proclaim that the ending of P&P the BBC movie is such a let down! I love the ending of the book (I mean the second proposal bit) and they did such an excellent job of the rest of it that they fell at the final hurdle. Okay, not fell but stumbled a bit.

I study aerospace engineering at the Queensland University of Technology.

Where to begin? I used to be a part of the Austen-L list for a few years...but got so busy with grad studies to keep up with the endless posts! But now, my guilty pleasure is to visit DWG and RoP as often as possible inbetween work and studies, as well as to write stories inspired by JA's novels.

I'm currently a grad student in 18th century French lit., working on my PhD, and have been teaching beginning French for the past few years (at UCLA). I was born and raised in Southern California, but part of my heart will always in be in Boston, where I went to school (Boston University) and where I will return someday. My parents are from the Philippines, so people are often confused by my passion for French...it is a language I've always wanted to learn, but never dreamed it would become such a big part of my life!

So what's a Francophile doing at DWG? I discovered DWG only a few months ago, and I've only started posting stories in May (last month). I've loved Jane Austen for almost as long as I can remember...my first experience being Northanger Abbey when I was 11. Then I read Pride & Prejudice a few years later and I got hooked...soon afterwards, I read all of her work. As an English Lit. grad student, I took a seminar on JA (with Julia Prewitt Brown), and it was one of the best courses I've ever had...can you imagine...homework was never so much fun. Despite all my academic background, I don't think I fit the stereotypical profile of "academic" at all...I like to watch TV, listen to all kinds of music, and I am a major bookaholic, as I cannot go anywhere without at least my writing journal or book to read (okay, so there's one aspect that makes me a nerd!).

As for JA's novels...Persuasion is my sentimental favorite, while Pride & Prejudice runs a very close second. While Mansfield Park is perhaps my least favorite, ironically enough I wrote my seminar paper on it! I own most of the JA adaptations on tape, including the BBC ones, save for NA, which I've not been able to find. I find myself constantly re-reading JA, and never tiring of it. My other favorite authors include Shakespeare, the Bronte sisters, George Eliot, Milan Kundera, Laurell Hamilton, John Keats, Voltaire, Diderot, Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Kafka, Charles Baudelaire, Marcel Proust, to name some of the many. But JA is my absolute favorite in all languages...I have several editions of each novel as well as some continuations both bad and not so bad. I prefer to read the JA stories online, of course!

Let me just state for the record how much I enjoy this site and appreciate the efforts of Ann and all of the editors who keep it going...it is wonderful to be a part of such a creative environment where there is living proof of how much JA is beloved everywhere. Thank you so much!

If you have actually read this far, I thank you for your forbearance!

    Okay, well I'm 16.
    I'm just finishing Year Ten.
    I really like Reading.
I love Jane Austen of course!
But i also enjoy, other classics, Agatha Christie, and most definetley Terry Pratchett.
I enjoy chatting to people and making new friends.
I'm a bit of a perfectionist when it comes to writing things and stuff but i'm the most untidy person ever!
I'm the worst cook. (note to people do not put chickens in microwave when they are in an aluminium lined paper bag - fire is bad!!)
    I love to shop!!
I really enjoy a good soppy romance movie, but i also enjoy very amusing black comedies as well.
Well the only movies i do not like are movies that have no plot and usu. they involve Arnold S., John Claude Van Damme etc. (Think Predator, Eraser, Street Fighter the list goes on)
I always have music or the tv going i can't stand silence.

Well that would be me to a tee i think!!

    Solange

My name is really Rebecca Nelson but I gained the nickname Solange in high school French and it stuck, both in real life and online. Since there are so many Rebeccas everywhere I usually introduce myself as Solange so that's how all my friends know me (and yes, they do know my real name, too).

My birthday is February 28, 1982 (I just turned 20 woohoo!).

I live at home with my parents in a suburb of St. Paul/Minneapolis but that is going to change in January of 2003. I just made the decision to drop out of school (University of Minnesota) and move down to New Orleans, LA, in order to become a police officer. My ultimate goal in life is to become a homicide detective and hopefully someday to join the FBI.

I love JA and her works. Other books I enjoy are murder mysteries (of course). The best are those with a little romance worked in! I also enjoy more contempory novels by authors like Jennifer Crusie, Helen Fielding (you knew that was coming) and others. My favorite gift to get are Barnes and Noble giftcards. If I'm not online reading this wonderful fanfic then my nose is stuck in a book. Or I'm writing my own fanfic (I have a story in the works that I hope to post here soon).

Music is another passion of mine, whether I'm listening to it or playing some instrument or another. I've been playing piano for years and picked up flute, euphonium, trombone, percussion, and a little guitar through high school band and (patient) tutelage from my brother and sister (who are both far more musical than I am and in bands. Oh well, they're much older than me, too!).

Traveling is great fun. I've only been across the pond twice but have stayed on the continent both times. I went with my parents to Germany and Paris once and then on an exchange trip with my high school to France the other time. I can't wait until I get to go to England and Scotland. My parents went to Scotland in October of 2001 and are going again in May of this year. My mom's family has roots in Scotland and Germany so we've been visiting the lands of our ancestors.

I'm currently job hunting for something in security in order to boost my resume when I go down to New Orleans. Wish me luck.

I'm also beginning to think all this P&P stuff is bad for me as no male I've met lately can compare to Darcy. Do they have mail-order Darcy catalogues? I'll take one of the tall, dark, handsome, strong, brooding, intellegent, humorous ones, please!

I'd like to say thank you to those who keep this site up and running. A day without the DWG is a nightmare for me. Keep up the good work!

At the risk of repeating myself and huge spelling errors and due some teasing from my short and sweet NFM earlier on, which is now deleted (and personally I thought NFM said it all) and in an attempt at a ridiculously long, incomprehensible sentence and stuff like that, I caved in. I'm going to attempt to fill the whole darn thing. ;)

    Name: Spring Jasmine
Birthday: August 1, 1973 (yeah, summer. Now you know where I get my sense of humour)
Spouse: One - male, Shawn Oooooooo yeah... hubba hubba. ;)
    Offspring: One, Olivia. She's four
Pet peeves: Sandy the dog. She's also four-ish
    Occupation: Housewife

Things I like to do instead of doing what I should be doing: I like to read, write, read, go for long procrastinating walks, play with Olivia, sing in the car, read, cook (just got a pasta roller - homemade pasta!! Let's all jump up for joy!!), come to DWG and read, vow to learn to do something but always forget to get started, flip through the college couse load books wondering what to take then laugh hysterically when I see the tuition prices, I used to scuba dive but that was before I got landlocked, I used to travel a bit but that was before Shawn got out of active duty (MARINES - watch it. ;)...), and I have developed avoiding housework into an art form. Someday I hope to get a grant. :) I also write stories. Most of them are rather childish but it's fun and that's the point.

Books I'll read over and over again: Anything by Jane Austen, that's a given. Pretty much whatever book of her's I'm reading is my favorite although Persuasion usually holds the top spot in my list of favorites. I also like P&P, Northanger Abbey, Mansfield Park, Emma, and S&S although not necessarily in that order. I'm also glad that Peg wrote the Bower and finished a peice of juveniellia and that's now one of my favorites. (Do I dare mention that I like Jamey more than Darcy? No I guess I shouldn't. But I do! I can't help it.) I also love books by James Clavell - King Rat is his best! If you haven't read any of his books read that one, trust me. Like Jane he had an untimely death. Very sad. I like James Mitchener books - to a certain extent. Some I just can't muddle through and others I just tear into and finish in a few days (that's something if you've seen his stuff) my personal favorites of his that I've read are Hawaii, Carribean, The Source, and Rascals in Paradise (don't laugh at it, it's bunch of short stories about pirates and stuff, supposedly true). I like some Tom Clancy - Without Remorse is his best. I guess I'm just a Mr. Clark kinda person instead of Jack Ryan. At least I am after reading that. :) Watership Down by Richard Adams - *blows kiss in air*. Charlotte's Web by E.B. White, I still cry at the end, how pathetic I am. The Hitchhiker's Guide Trilogy by Douglas Adams - the man has one wicked sense of humour. Clan of the Cave Bear by Jean M. Auel - now who doesn't want to be Ayla sometimes? Rrrrrrebecca by Daphne Du Maurier - siiiggghhhhh. Calvin and Hobbes by Bill Waterson - the guy is so funny. The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orczy - Shawn got me to read that book, thank you, Shawn! Some Stephen King books, before he got on some sort of feminist kick. I swear most of his new books are written by his wife. I like his old stuff but the Dark Tower series is entralling. Shel Silverstein - The Giving Tree should be in every home in the world, thank you very much. The Water Babies by Charles Kingsley - what a cool book! I have a ton of favorites from DWG and BoI, too many to mention, but anything written by Malini, Jimmy, Kathlyn, Lise and Peg are must reads. I love reading biographies. Autobiographies are interesting too but I'm suspisious of people talking about themselves like they never do anything wrong and like they have something to say after wining an Ocsar. And one thing that really bugs me are people who have te arrogance to write autobiographies when they haven't even done anything yet. Why write an autobiography at twenty-five? You still have sixty some odd years to go.... *stops* *looks at top of page* *reads 'post a new bio'* Um... never mind.

Movies that I'll pay to see: You Can't Take it With You and almost any other Jimmy Stewert movie there is, Edward Scissorhands, E.T., The Empire of the sun (still reduces me to a pile of blubbering tissue), Grease, Annie, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Batman, Veggietales, Any MST3K show - especially Manos: The Hands of Fate and Fire Maidens from Outer Space, Rebecca - the Hitchcock version with Laurence Olivier *wipes drool from chin*, High Noon *puts hand of palpitating heart* oh my!, Army of Darkness, The Thin Man and Return of the Thin Man (which goes under that Jimmy Stewert heading but remarkable bc he's the bad guy!), Heathers, Blazing Saddles and History of the World Pt 1, To Kill A Mockingbird - which should also be up there on my books list, It Should Happen to You, I Was a Male War Bride - Cary Grant in drag - LOL!!, which reminds me, Bringing up Baby and The Philidelphia Story - oh yeah!, Marx Brothers movies, Star Wars!!!!! - waiting anxiously for the prequels, P&P2 - you were wondering when I'd get to it weren't you?, Raiders of the Lost Ark - gotta be one of the best, Terminator 1 and 2, Lethal Weapon 2 (Is that the first one with Joe Pesci in it? Well that version is the one I mean), A Fish Called Wanda and Fierce Creatures, Might as well just mention Monty Pyton here -----> Monty Python.

    I think that's enough for now don't you? I'm sure I forgot something. ;)

Music: Anything almost. I don't like rap or country. Well, no that's wrong, I like Patsy Cline and I have been known to listen to Willie Nelson too if he's on the radio (OK, I admit it!). I live in Texas but I cannot two step. I like (again not necessarily in this order) Duran Duran, Linda Ronstadt, Depeche Mode (not in concert though, they suck), Glen Miller, The Cure, Frank 'Old Blue Eyes' Sinatra, Johnny Mathis (Yeee-eeees, I do! Stop looking at me like that. ;)), Music by Danny Elfman - especially the soundtracks to Edward Scissorhands and The Nightmare Before Christmas oh! and Beetlejuice and Batman and Pee Wee's Big Adventure and..., The Pretenders, Jimmy Buffet - but you already knew that. ;) Queen - Freddie Mercury... what a voice, I like classical but I couldn't tell you which song is which, I'm not really very educated. But I do know that I like Swan Lake. Well, just about anything from Tchaikovsky is great, Beethoven's 6th - the Pastoral Symphony (hey I like the 5th too but the 6th is so much fun), Bolero by Ravel, Carmen by Bizet, and a lot more that I don't know the names too. :D

I know I forgot to put something up here but then, why try to remember? I have to have something to talk about in Chat. :)

Is that enough for you Laura?? ;)

I'll wind up deleting this, I just know it....

How did I find JA? -- I read Pride and Prejudice as a high school sophomore; I was hooked! Reading it may have sent me on my career path. I am a graduate student in English Literature (18th and 19th Century British Literature).

Favorite JA novel? -- Pride and Prejudice followed by Persuasion. As I have gotten older, Persuasion has grown in my affections. Perhaps, I'm hoping that, like Anne Elliot discovers, "it isn't too late for true love." :-)

I'm Susan Parker - happily married since 1995, my husband is a marine and it was on one of his his deployments in 1999 that I discovered the movie- Pride & Prejudce... and got addicted. I saw all three versions, then started reading the books (Emma, S&S, Northanger Abbey, Sandition, Watsons..etc) I found Pemberley (BoI) in May of 2000 and DWG several months later.
I am ADDICTED to this stuff. I think I might have to find a 12 step program so I can function on days when I CAN'T go online. *ugh*
It is really getting bad.... but, I do love the stories posted here. I finally decided to try my hand at writing in December - when I started "Quitting the Sphere" Writing is both more complicated and more rewarding than I previously thought.
other info: I currently work at my church as admin staff - it's the first time I have truly loved my job since I started working more than 10 years ago. Luckily, I get to use some creativity in producing flyers, programs, postcards, and even writing a little.

For starters... the "CEC" at the end of my name are my middle and last initials (Catherine Elizabeth Cerniglia). I didn't put my town name because it's soooo small that I doubt most of you would have any clue where it is. :-)

I'm one of the youngest here (still in high school), and have been reading JA for a little over two years. I first read P&P on a blessed snow day, and only put it down to eat dinner. I've read (and loved) all of her completed works, but P&P and Persuasion are my favorites.

School, music, and sports fill my life almost completely. I play the French horn in band, the violin in orchestra, and the trumpet in jazz band. Also, I sing in chorus and am in our annual spring musicals. As for sports, I play soccer in the fall and do track in the spring. School is school, but I do love studying history and geography when I get the chance.

I'll listen to any kind of music imaginable (but I do have trouble with most rap and heavy metal/alternative songs) I love to read whatever I can, which usually means jumping from Austen to fantasy/sci-fi to Shakespeare to historical fiction. My favorite movies include The Princess Bride, Star Wars, Sabrina (both of them), My Fair Lady, Sleeping Beauty, Gettysburg...

Hmmmm well basically i'm just another lunatic Michigander who is obsessed with Jane Austen's novels. My all-time favorite being Pride & Prejudice. I love to write stories, poetry, biking, dancing, be an annoyance, wreak havoc in public, and be a general all-out nuisance. I'm comical, sarcastic, rude, pushy, overbearing, closet-romantic(but dont tell), and just a tad insane. Ok so maybe totally insane but my psychiatrist says i'm coming along nicely! :D

I'm 21, an only child(selfish, demanding) work a low-paying, thankless job just so the government can take over half of my measely wages, only to have them turn around and take away my rights(lovely isnt it?) Let's see i have two dogs, a cat and some fish, and none of them eats their own food. The dogs eat the catfood, the cat eats the fishfood, and my fish eat the dogfood. I guess my insanity has rubbed off. Hmm what else? OH yes i love doing doughnuts in the parking lot of the local college. I like going to the local bars and making fun of the natives, getting tipsy and making an arse of myself. I am currently working on world domination, along with my co-conspirator, ColleenV., as soon as we have succeeded Jane Austen shall be revered as a God. We're even working on creating new money with her picture on it. "In Austen We Trust", etc. You get the picture.

Anywho, since i have posted several times here i figured i might as well post something about myself so you can all poke fun at me! *wiggles eyebrows* i guarantee i will retaliate in kind! Now i have to be going before the other Asylum inmates get rowdy and i have to show them who's boss!(have to keep the pesky underlings in check you know-i won't tolerate insubordination) Thanks for reading!

A person's heritage says more about them than anything else, so I'm going to begin by saying that I am originally from India. I'm always stumped when people ask me where I'm from because I've moved around all my life, never living in the same place for more than a few years, until recently. I've lived in McLean for more than 5 years, so it's the easiest answer. Before that, I've lived in Conneticut and dozens of cities in India.

Well, I was born May 16, 1983 and had a wonderful childhood. All the moving around made me an expert at being the "new kid" and I learned how to adapt to new situations. Growing up, all I ever wanted was to be an adult. I have my wish now, I guess. I graduated from McLean High School and now attend Dartmouth College, continuing a dwiggie tradition. I love college; I find myself growing by leaps and bounds. The people and experiences I have found in college touch my life and change me constantly. It's quite an adventure and this spirit of constant change and discovery is what keeps me excited about life.

I have loved books all my life. My favorite authors include Jane Austen (obviously), Ayn Rand, Agatha Christie, PG Wodehouse. My favorite books are Pride and Prejudice, Atlas Shrugged, Catch 22 - to name a few. I love to write. It is my way to express myself, vent frustrations, cope with emotions, create something meaningful. I am a romantic at heart - I love candlelit dinners and dances by roaring fireplaces. Everyone looks better by candelight.

I love life. I admire beautiful things. I respect ambition and achievement. I believe in having a purpose, always. I love walking down the streets of New York City. I hate ambling. I love crisp, fall days. I love driving my car on a warm, spring day, with the windows rolled down and my favorite songs blasting on the radio. I adore words. I am attracted to guys, who have a great sense of humor. I love to laugh. I believe in reason and logic. I believe in love. I have faith in the human mind. I love to dance and have a good time. I am constantly mystified by the universe. I marvel at the human body. I never want to forget the excitement for life I feel now. I want to keep sight of how I want things to be, while not ignoring how things really are. I never want to accept mediocrity.

There are too many things in life to be excited about, too many dreams to realize, too many goals to achieve, too many places to see, too many things to learn, too many people to meet - I don't have time to feel sorry for myself. I am both a realist and an idealist. One of these days, I want to change the world - in my own small way. I have big dreams and believe that the possiblities are endless. I love my family and friends; I want to share my love for life with them. Time is something I will constantly have to battle because there are only so many hours in a day - when I figure out how to make the most of my time, I will be that much happier.

I tend to talk too much, as you can probably see. My one piece of advice would be to always think, question, analyze - your mind is your greatest weapon, your biggest resource, your constant friend. That's all.

I come from a long line of Librarians, and they all told me I was born to become one. I stubbornly refused to listen to them, until I turned 23. Then I listened. So now I have about four years of University ahead of me.

While waiting for that graduation, I read and write, and tell other people what I think they should read. I don't tell them what to write, I'm saving that until I turn 75.

I do have a life, it's buried right there under "Burke's Peerage", "Practical Communism", "The Lord of the Rings" and the other almost 1000 books I keep in my room.

My aim is to make people laugh at my stories, but late at night I write P and P stories with loads of angst, all named "P and P without the humour".

But that's just a phase. I'm a happy person, and my six future children will bear the names Guinevere, David, Elizabeth, Alexandra, Cordelia, and Darcy, but my husband probably won't allow that last one.

Do write if you want to, I love to meet new people that read and/or write OR has a huge estate and likes redheads.

Born and raised in the Niagara Region, I have spent the last 15+ years working for the local Board of Education first as a Media Technician and now in the Educational Media Services Department.

I am married and have one son, who just loves to watch and read about Mr. Dahcy!

My first exposure to Jane Austen was too long ago to remember, but following that unamed BBC production from 1995, I devoured everything I could find on the delightful lady.

I enjoy reading, writing, (not arithmetic), Star Trek, horseback riding(dressage and jumping in particular), writing, Coronation Street, writing......

Hi, I work as a graphic designer and I am a single mother. In my spare time I enjoy reading, drawing, writing, and watching movies with English actors. American actors grate on my nerves, and the movies that are being produced here are so, shall we say lame; and television is not much better. Masterpiece Theater, A&E, Bravo, HGTV International, and AMC are all the viewing I generally do. I lived in England as a teen and since then I have wanted to be English. I take delight in British satire, so TV shows like "Friends" and "Drew Carey" are tiresome to me. Give me "Monty Python" any day.

I like to travel and my favorite places to talk about and visit are San Francisco and Disney World. One day when I save enough money I will go back to visit the places I knew in Oxfordshire.

Other than the stories here, I am not a great reader. However, when I do find something I like I tend to read it straight through and not look up until it is finished. I have just recently finished reading all of Jane Austen and my favorites (in order) are P & P, NA, & P. The others are not my style, though I did enjoy the dramatizations immensely. I own all of the movies except NA so I eagerly await that production.

I am pretty new to DWG, "lurking" from time to time. For some strange reason I was never quite able to find my way around in the beginning, but I feel comfortable now. I generally hang out at Pemberley so some of you may know me from there.

I am sorry to say I am NOT a CF fan, (*tears forming*) however I am a devoted AC fan (*big smile*) and have spent the last several months renting all of his movies. Ohhhh, those puppy dog eyes!!! So when I post my stories, Colonel Fitzwilliam will most likely be the star and will tend to be on the humorous side. I am working on a serious story over in BOI called "Attachments" though I'm going through serious writer's block with it. I will be making some revisions and will post it over here one-day soon.

Writing is very new to me so the things you see me post will probably not have the "polish" that so many of your stories possess. I am constantly purchasing writer's manuals and workbooks and hopefully with time I will improve. I appreciate the warm hospitality and encouragement that I have received regarding my posts and look forward to a long and happy relationship with you all.

    Warmest Regards,
    Teresa AF

I have been reading Jane Austen since probably about the 6th grade-have loved her since I was about 14 (it took a while to comprehend the language). I am recently engaged to my boyfriend of three years, and we have two cats, Maya (after Angelou) and Kate (after Kate from "The Taming of the Shrew"). I love to collect old books and biographies, and we both love to travel and read. We need to find a place to settle down, because it's getting really difficult to keep moving all of our books around! :O)

I read a lot, and Jane Austen is one of my favorites. My favourite JA is P&P. But now when I found this site ... I have internet acess at work, so I write out the stories to read at home. I am definitely not a writer, so I will continue to enjoy the fantastic stories on the board.

When I don't work and read, I watch tv, videos and film (my fav is of course CF in P&P2 !!) and meet friends. I also go to aerobic classes once in a while.

Oy! After reading 80 Ways of Dwiggiedom, I knew I had to come out of the woodwork (93.8% Dwiggie if you're strict with the wording, but 97.5% if spouse and kids are replaced by brother and children you baby-sit) and officially declare myself as an absolute slave to JA FanFic and anything else related to JA and her o-filled-with-lifelong-wisdom novels. Hail! ::kneeling down and flailing arms in direction of enlarged JA poster in room::

I'm a sophomore of an obscure suburban high school trying to duck from school lunches, evil math problems and anyone resembling "Collins", "Augusta", "Caroline" and "Steele" characters. I've related all my classmates and teachers to some JA character or other with excellent success (a "Sir Thomas" and a "Mrs. Norris" moved in last year, ick).

I started reading the JA novels in 6th grade quite by accident. I was really looking for "The Agony and The Ecstasy" and picked the wrong book up in the library (it's kinda like the Jane/Bingley video store sequence in Dreamweaver written by Dawn). And eventually got hooked. Then I found BoI and DWG and became obsessed =).

Let me tell you, the Fantasia Gallery and Epilogue Abbey was a revelation!

I love coffee, classics (novels, music, architecture.. etc.), toxiology, coffee, New England, web, coffee, Great Britain, and comedy spin-offs (have I mentioned coffee?). Monty Python, Wallace and Gromit, Airplane, Clue, Hotshots, Empire Records, AMC.. hehehehe.

    And that's me!

    Birthday: 9 November '78

I'm the baby of the family (only a teeny weeny bit spoiled). Brothers: Krist (29), Joris (27), Ward (26) and sister: Maaike (22).

I'm studying Architectural Engineering (3rd year) at the Catholic University of Leuven (I'm not a religious person though).

My first language is Dutch (Flemish), second language is supposed to be French (recent visits to France have proven that my French needs a lot of polishing though).

I first discovered JA through Emma Thompson's S&S in '96. When Flemish and Dutch TV first showed P&P2 in September '96, I was glued to the screen. And apparently I was not the only one. A couple of months later, there already was a rerun on the Dutch TV. Via the website of that TV channel, I discovered the RoP and the fanfic page.

I don't write too many comments on stories, but that doesn't mean I don't appreciate them.

I live in Wellington, New Zealand, which is very windy and very hilly. I've just started a new job and I'm not 100% sure what I'm doing there yet, but I am engaged to the most wonderful man in the world. I am sorry, but anyone else who happens to think that they are engaged or married to the most wonderful man in the world is deluding themself.

Apart from that I read Austen, Wodehouse, Agatha Christie and pretty much everything else I can get my hands on.

I'm a 21 chiropractic student, who lives in Quebec and has, as you supposed, a huge passion for Jane Austen. French is my maternal language, but I'm fluent in English and can speak a bit of Spanish. Litterature has been a lifelong passion of mine : I can't spend a day without reading something! My favorite books are Les Liaisons Dangereuses, The Three Musketeers, The Age of Innocence and all the novels of Jane Austen, especially Persuasion.

I crave anything concerning health and the human body : it is a goal of mine to help people attain a better quality of life with chiropractic care. I am a computer lover, as long as my PC doesn't crash while I'm chatting ;) I even have a personnal web page. It's all in French, but you might want to go and check the photos ( watch out for my Halloween costume! )

I guess that's all, to know more you'll have to chat with me :)

    Vals

    Is From: Belfast, N.Ireland
And has the address: Send Mail to

I'm Valerie, but please call me Val, Vals or Big Val like all my other friends. I'm originally from Omagh, Co.Tyrone, which is about 70 miles from Belfast. I moved here to go to Queens University, and at the moment I'm in my second year of a Politics degree. I'm 19 years old and have one sister, who is 21 and in her final year of University in England. I enjoy living in Belfast, as there is a much better social life, and I'm living far enough away from my parents to have a complete sense of freedom, yet near enough so that if I want to I can hop on a bus and be home within two hours.

I had read Emma and Pride and Prejudice when I was 12, but it wasn't until I saw the 1995 BBC adaption that I was bitten by the Austen bug. Since then I have read all the major works several times. I recently started on The Watsons, but I left the book behind the last time I was at home. P&P is my all time favourite. I've found that I can read it whatever type of mood I'm in as there is always at least one bit of the book that suits my mood. I must have read it about 30 times completely through, but I never get sick of it. Presuasion is probably my second favourite JA novel. My enjoyment of Emma has always been hampered by the fact that I can't stand Emma Woodhouse. I find that whenever I read the book, I just want to slap her about the head with a wet fish!

Adaption wise, I have of course seen P&P2 (several million times), as well as P&P0, Emma 3 (which I really couldn't really stand. I found it to be a very poor adaption), Clueless, and the 1994 BBC Persuasion. I of course agree whole-heartedly that Colin Firth is the ultimate Darcy. I also think that there will never be as good a Frederick Wentworth as Ciaran Hinds. I've never got round to watching the Gwyneth Paltrow version of Emma, but I probably will soon.

Apart from our own dear Jane, I thoroughly enjoy reading the novels of Agatha Christie and Dick Francis. I really enjoy reading Bridget Jones' Diary by Helen Fielding, it always makes me laugh, especially all the references to Darcy (and his namesake). Her book, Cause Celeb is also very witty, the humour is a lot more sharp and stinging than in BJD. Other favourites include Iain Banks' The Crow Road (I also loved the BBC adaption), William Goldman's The Princess Bride, Nevil Shute's A Town Like Alice (while the film is excellent, apart from the ending the book just blows it out of the water. It goes into Jean and Joe's life in the outback, its just fantastic), Rebecca by Daphne du Maurier, Great Expectations and Hard Times by Dickens, Dubliners by James Joyce and anything by Oscar Wilde. My all time favourite poet is W.B. Yeats, my favourite poem being 'An Irish Airman Forsees His Death'. I also like quite a bit of Keats' work, and Larkin has grown on me in the past few years.

TV and film wise, I love old movies, especially the Ealing Comedies like The Lavander Hill Mob and Kind Hearts and Coronets. Other movies I adore are any Bond film, The Princess Bride, The League of Gentlemen, Laura, Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and An Ideal Husband. I think my all time favourite actor in the world, apart from Colin Firth of course has got to be Sir Laurence Olivier (I don't hold P&P0 against him). I can never miss an Agatha Christie mystery on the TV. Joan Rutherford and Peter Ustenov were good, but the definitive Miss Marple and Hercule Poirot are Joan Hickson and David Suchet. I'm also a soap addict - I watch Neighbours, Home and Away, Hollyoaks, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Eastenders on a regular basis.

My taste in music is quite ecclectic. My CD collection includes Fun Lovin' Criminals, The Divine Comedy, Fat Boy Slim, Chemical Brothers, The Corrs, Boyzone, The Stranglers, A-ha, Diana Ross, The Beatles, The Monkees, Dean Martin, Andy Williams, etc. Well you get the picture. Basically, I love anything which has a good base beat to it. I used to play the double bass, and came to the weird conclusion years ago that everyone was so busy concentrating on the tune that they were neglecting the foundations of their music, i.e. the base beats, which give the music its tempo and rhythm - hence, the type of music we had to endure in the 1980s.

My favourite sports are Formula One (my other great passion) and Rugby Union. I play badminton, volleyball and netball very badly ("because I will not take the trouble of practicing" and no, I haven't "employed my time much better"!!!!).

I think that basically covers everything you'll ever want to know about me (plus a lot more besides!!!). Oh, except that I collect anything to do with Ladybirds and Holly Hobbie dolls that I can find. Anyway I think I'll discontinue my impression of a genitically modified Mr Collins, whose genes have been spliced with Mrs Bennet, Lady Catherine de Bourg, Mr and Mre Elton, Miss Bates, and Sir Walter Elliot to create an entirely new bread of horrible scaryness!!!!!

All the Irish Dwiggies Plus any lurkers from Norn Irlan' - sorry that's an Omagh joke)will know what I'm mean when I (finally) conclude with the following comments - Go on ya good tings! (sorry, my impression of o Dublin accent written down) and keep up the good work, big labs (imagine a Liam Neeson-esque Ballymena accant when you read that last comment - Sorry if you don't get my meanings, these end comments are sort of in-jokes with my non-cyber friends who I will lure onto this website).

    Is From: Toronto, Canada

Hi all. My name (as you may have gathered) is Viv and I'm 16. I absolutely adore this site and would like to thank all the wonderful authors who have helped to make my idle time a lot more interesting. (oh dear) Anyway, I love all things Jane Austen, my favourite books are Pride and Prejudice, Emma, and Catcher in the Rye. I have yet to post here cause I'm kind of shy, my HTML skills are non-existent and my spelling is quite bad, however I do anticipate that I will become a frequent poster.
I am Chinese Canadian (and quite proud of it), attend high school and I enjoy reading, playing my piano and cello, writing, listening to music (SLOAN RULES!!), and coming here to read the fabulous stories! My favourite movies are P&P2 (naturally), Emma, Star Wars (the original ones), the Shawshank Redemption, and Grosse Point Blank. I love rock/alternative music and the occasional sitting of classical orchestral/symphonic music. My goals in life are to read all the works of Jane Austen and Shakespeare, travel the world, and to live a life of consequence. (seriously)
Enough about me now. Before closing, i would just like to thank (again) Ann and all the others that help run this site, and contribute to it. The atmosphere here is very welcoming and I love this place! Thanks for your time =P

Is From: Adelaide, South Australia, Australia.
And has the address: Send Mail to

I was born in Hong Kong and my family migrated to Australia when I was 11. We had been living in Adelaide ever since.

I went straight to uni after high school, got my BE in mechanical engineering and now I am working as a Research Engineer for a manufacturing company. I really want to work as a manufacturing engineer but I don't have enough experience in that area yet sad

How I came across Jane Austen:
My first contact with JA was the B&W P&P1 movie I saw when I was maybe 12 or 13. I really enjoyed the movie so I decided to read the novel. Although I didn't understand all of JA's wit then, P&P had become my favourite book. As I was doing uni, P&P gradually faded into the background.

My current obsession started with Bridget Jones' Diary, not A&E's P&P2 strangely enough. I enjoyed BJD and decided to re-read P&P; and I felt in love with P&P all over again. Then I bought the A&E P&P DVD and ended up watching all six hours of it in the first sitting - it was like adding fuel to fire wink

    How I came across DWG:
I was looking for P&P sequels on the web and stumbled across RoP, then DWG in late 2001. I liked the relaxed, friendly environment at DWG and now I have to have at least a "dosage" a day. Mainly I am a lurker, occasionally I'd go to Chatsworth or post a message or two in the Tea Room. I am currently attempting my first fan-fic story and the progress is painfully slow.

Favourite JA novel: Pride & Prejudice.
I still don't understand all the subtle wit in the book. Every time I re-read P&P, I gain a little more understanding of it.
Persuasion comes a very, very close second, then S&S. I haven't read MP, NA or her Juvenilia yet.

    Favourite Character: Lizzy Bennet !!!
I can be loud and sociable amongst friends, even been called vivacious once, but I'm more like Georgiana when in company of strangers - quiet, shy. I'd love to be more like Lizzy - to have her "lively playful disposition", "wit and vivacity" and "something more of quickness"; as well as be able to say "My courage always rises with every attempt to intimidate me." and not be bluffing.

    Movies I enjoy:
My fave movie is Shawshank Redemption. Other movies I like are: Alien/Aliens series, Dead Again, Indiana Jones trilogy, Fight Club, The Rock (NOT the wrestler!), The Bone Collector, While You Were Sleeping, Doris Day musicals ... As you can see there's quite a strange mix here.

    Reading materials I enjoy:
DWG stories!! Other books I like are novels by Jeffery Deaver, other forensic science, detective, crime novels and true crime.

Interests other than JA, P&P and JA fanfic:
Too many interests, too little time. Let's see ...

    • Running - Started road running mid last year (2001), and my goal/motivator is to enter and finish a half marathon race by the end of 2003.
    • Astrology - Yours truly was born in May 1973, which makes me a Taurus born in the year of the Ox. Stubborn, slow moving, introverted ... and a very good friend.
    • Camping - Went for a weeklong camping trip for the first time last Christmas, thouroughly enjoyed it. Trips I would like to do in the future: Flinders Ranges, Simpson Desert, cross the Simpson and then go to Kakadu National Park ...
    • Other interests that will have to wait until I have more time to pursuit: singing, forensic science (fascinating stuff), astronomy, photography, and many more.

Well I think that's more than enough info to give you an idea of who I am if we meet in Chatsworth.

Lastly I would like to say thank you to Ann for starting and maintaining this website, archivers past, present and future for their time and energy, and other dwggies for making this website fun. DWG has become a treasured part of my day-to-day life and my life will be so dull without it.

    Hi.
Wow, this is awkward. I feel like I should say, "I'm Wende" but you already know that by looking at the top of this bio.
Maybe I should just say it anyway. I think I already did.
Let's just get on with things:
I'm a senior majoring in English/Technical Communication at
Utah State University.(yahoo!) USU is in a small town in Northern Utah-Logan. Logan is surrounded by canyons, and has some of the most beautiful scenery in the world. I count hiking and camping among some of my favorite things, and Logan is definitely a good place to be if you love the outdoors.
I was born in Salt Lake City, and moved first to south Florida and then to Upstate New York. I still have a soft spot in my heart for both of those places, and still count NY as home(sort of-my parents still live there.) Utah has been great too, though I'm looking forward to graduating and seeing where I end up!
I love to read, write, draw, paint, invent, cook, sew and I'm currently learning how to knit and play the harmonica. I love music and art and figure that I'll spend the rest of my life working as a tech writer to finance all of the projects that I start. My latest one was to build a desk for my bedroom-it looks pretty cool!
I have a wonderful family-Mom and Dad live in Rochester. My younger sister Jennifer is 21 and starting her third year at Brigham Young University. I also have a brother Collin, who is 17 and a senior in high school.
I'm 23 years old, and my birthday is March 17th.
Favorite books: Pride and Prejudice, Persuasion, Crime and Punishment, Jane Eyre, To Kill a Mockingbird, Brave New World.(there are many more, but I don't think I have room for them all)
I love all types of music though previously country music was something that I couldn't listen to at all. I am growing to tolerate it more, though I would say that Jazz and Folk music are my faves.
    I love the color red.
I have hazel eyes, and very short brown hair. I'm about 5'7 or so.
Well-I guess that's a good picture of me. That and I don't know what else I would write down!

My teachers call me Elizabeth, my friends call me Liz, my parents call me Lizzy, and my brother calls me Wesley. As you see I have an unswerwing devotion to my 9 year old brother(but don't tell him that), who randomly says some of the dumbest/funniest things.
Right now I'm living in Hawaii, but I much prefer Maryland and the east coast. Most people think I'm crazy when I tell them that, and I would have to agree. But my flute teacher understands, being an east coast girl herself.
This fall I'll be going to Utah and attending Brigham Young University. So yeah, I'm a Mormon. But to go to college, I have to finish my junior/senior year through homeschool...which I do NOT recomend because these 2 English classes are gonna kill me.
I have to give props to the movie "Titanic". For without it I would have never watched my mom's copy of "Sense and Sensibility" and just might not have consented to watch P&P(Firth/Ehle) and just might still be in the dark.
I love music, reading, traveling, speaking my very gramatically inccorect french, watching movies, writing, my computer and my stuffed flamingo. Oh, and I can't forget judo. I have my second (out of 3) degree brown belt in it, and my old choach is going to kill me when he finds out I haven't been to any practices since I moved.

    Born: October 23, 1985(currently 16)

I'm one of those people you hope to never meet at a party. Not the strange ones, but the overly talkative ones with a love for politics. Also, I'm a Christian- homeschooled girl that attends the local City College (my mom thought I had to much spare time.)

I found the R of P about a year ago, and through them found the DWG. I've never actually completed a story...ever in my life. My problem is that despite the ideas in my head, I go to write them down and I hit a major writer's block. My friends say that is my general nature. I'm not creative. I should just know the answers to their many questions; because of that they call me Knowledge or Lady Knowledge (long story.) They find my overly romantic Jane Austen side strange. I love Mr. Knightly(JN), Mr. Darcy(CF) and I greatly enjoyed the fencing and lake scenes in P&P2.

Some of my favorite stories on the DWG are: Janet & Elizabeth, From Lambton to Longbourn, The Eagle and the rose, Colonel Fitzwilliam lends a hand, Fitzwilliam/Fitzwilliam, Secret Marriage, and The Task at Hand.

Hmmm...where do I start? Let's see...I'm a high school sophomore (which would make me about 15) going onto, but not looking forward to, my junior year (SAT's AUGH!!!).

I'm a downhill skiing fanatic as well as a volleyball freak, but my greatest passion...you guessed it...is Jane Austin!!! I first read it because one of my friends kept calling me an 'Elizabeth Bennet' and I was like, who is she? *another reason was because of a book report assignment* Fortunately, I found out and now she is my greatest heroine, next to the lady who created her.

I've lived in AK pretty much all my life and it's really not that bad if you don't count the fact that you're about a million miles from the rest of the US! It's pretty cool and really beautiful here in the winter. Um...let's see...my other hobbies are running, violin, and track/field (I did do cheerleading, but that got old after a while).

My Future: Hopefully, I will go to college in the East Coast (my eyes are glued to Columbia and Yale at the moment, but as usual, they are subject to change). As for my future love life...I am still searching for that one Mr. Darcy! I have been in love with curly hair ever since P&P2!

Motto in Life: When in doubt, wear red.

My full name is Zebulun Matteson, but I go by Zeb.

Me and my family are temporarily living in Russia, but are from the US. We visit America every year or so.

I have written several stories here, but I am only (so far) continuing one- The Black Mask. It's my first shot at a romance. Unfortunatly I post very non-frequently, usualy once every month.

My sister Kara is a fellow dwiggie and also writes stories here- and has finnished every one (exept for the one that she is writing now) whereas I have never finnised a story in my life... I suppose if someone looked the the junk pile in and on my desk if they could understand my writing then they would find, under masses of magazines, scrap paper, toys and trash several unfinnished stories, most of which I have only written one page on. There is probably enough writing to put together five large books.

My room is usualy a mess, lego bits and things laying on the floor, my bookshelf in complete disorder, things all over my chair and desk, and the drawer inside my desk, is full of stuff that is six years old. However, I normaly clean my room every other day since my parents make me clean it, but it falls into compete disorder the next day. My mom is always sayng to organize the things in my desk, which in my opinion is already organized since I know where everything in it is. But, to every one else, well, lets just say my room is very messy. I think rooms can tell a persons character very well.

I have a passion for mexican and chinese food, not to mention pizza and steak, mashed potatoes, ect... Oh, don't forget pancakes with maple syrup(I hate putting things like jam on my pancakes).

I am eleven years old, and just a few months away from being twelve. If you where wondering, I have dirty blond hair and blue eyes. I am tall and thin, and hate cutting my hair, even though I don't want to let it grow long.

I love reading, I goble up several books in one day. I love science fiction, and have already thought up a pretty interesting science fic. story. (You can e-mail me about it if you want), fantasy, ect... I read books by J.R.R. Tolkien, read Animorphhs and Harry Potter, and have read many many more. :)
